WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

SUMMARY
The National Hockey League is looking for our next class of interns to join our 2026 Summer Internship Program.
The National Hockey League seeks a curious, motivated data intern to analyze fan engagement trends across social media platforms. This role offers a leaguewide view of the NHL’s social media ecosystem and plays a key part in understanding fan behavior, particularly among the League’s youngest and most diverse audiences. As a member of the Strategy & Analytics team, you will analyze platform-agnostic data to identify trends, uncover insights, and help inform data-driven decision-making across the League. This internship provides hands-on exposure to social analytics tools, large-scale datasets, and executive-level storytelling, making it an ideal opportunity for candidates interested in sports, media, and data analytics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Analyze social media performance and fan engagement data across established and emerging platforms  
  • Translate complex metrics and technical analysis into clear, actionable insights for internal stakeholders  
  • Monitor and identify trends in fan behavior, content performance, and platform evolution  
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date datasets through daily data intake, sourcing, and record keeping  
  • Conduct independent research and deliver insights and recommendations to the NHL’s Strategy & Analytics team  
  • Collaborate with internal partners and gain exposure to a variety of social analytics tools, vendors, analytics providers, and content management systems  

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
Required
  • Demonstrated experience in data analytics, reporting, and translating insights into clear, compelling narratives  
  • Basic understanding of business intelligence deliverables, including dashboards and visualizations  
  • Comfortable working with large datasets while maintaining accuracy and a big-picture perspective  
  • Deep understanding of mainstream and emerging social media platforms - including algorithms, formats, and cultural nuance  

Preferred
  • Experience with Tableau is a plus 

 Education/Certifications
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in an accredited university/college pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field 

Required Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail 
  • Strong proficiency using Microsoft Excel

All of our internships are paid at $20/hour. WE DO NOT OFFER SCHOOL CREDIT.
