SUMMARY
The NHL’s social media team’s mission is to entertain and inform fans worldwide. To that end, we prioritize consistent, high-quality visuals that engage our audience and spark conversation.
In this role, you will contribute to the ideation, development, and production of visual assets across all NHL social media platforms during live games throughout the regular season and playoffs. You will help establish and execute the visual identity of our social channels through a combination of quick-turn, reactive graphics and long-term creative executions, including event and marketing promotions.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, social-savvy designer with endless ideas and an eye for clean, compelling layouts. You must thrive in a fast-paced environment, have meticulous attention to detail, and consistently produce high-quality original content.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Contribute to the design process from concept to completion across core NHL social platforms, including Facebook, X, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as well as emerging platforms like Threads, Reddit, and Pinterest.
· Prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
· Balance high-volume asset creation with creative excellence and speed, while reserving bandwidth for custom, original work.
· Use storytelling and design to evoke emotion and fan passion.
· Conduct thorough quality control to ensure all designs are grammatically correct, factually accurate, and brand aligned.
· Collaborate closely with the Creative Services and Social Media teams to brainstorm and develop content across various platforms and formats.
· Stay up to date with evolving social and digital trends and apply those insights to design strategies.
· Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders for asset distribution.
QUALIFICATIONS
· 3-5 years of professional design experience.
· Strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in layout, typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
· Bachelor’s degree in design or a related field.
· Expert-level skills in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (motion graphics and After Effects experience strongly preferred).
· Deep understanding of the social media landscape, including best practices for each platform.
· Meticulous attention to detail and a sharp eye for quality.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Strong knowledge of the NHL, including its teams, players, history, and rules, as well as the broader hockey landscape.
· Have flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required based on the game and event schedule and departmental scheduling needs.
