WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

SUMMARY
The NHL is looking for an analyst to join the Research & Insights team, which functions as a knowledge-center across all the league’s business units and stakeholders. The team is tasked with uncovering strategic insights to inform optimization across the entire NHL ecosystem, with a targeted lens on developing the fanbase and deepening engagement. The team’s work centers on conducting primary research (largely via third-party research vendors) and leveraging an array of syndicated data sources to gauge consumer motivations, preferences, and behaviors. The team analyzes the data, synthesizes learnings into actionable insights, and develops data narratives to communicate findings. 
 
This role will focus primarily on partnerships, sales, and solutions research, and will work closely with the Research Manager to help support the NHL’s Business Development department.  In addition to these responsibilities, the analyst will support a wide range of research initiatives across the NHL, including but not limited to: domestic and global fan development, brand and club health/tracking, innovation and growth strategy, and marketing/fan engagement initiatives. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Be an established expert and go-to-resource for fan insights utilizing both primary and syndicated resources (including but not limited to YouGov, Vision Insights Decoder, etc) to support strategy, new business, and partner renewal initiatives
  • Mine and leverage a variety of data sources, and partner with internal clients, to monitor and distill NHL fan/market insights pertaining to behaviors, consumption, and perceptions
  • Support Business Development initiatives by analyzing data across a variety of sources to help build compelling stories to prospective partners, and support current partners throughout the entire partnership life cycle (renewal, campaign recaps, etc)
  • Support the design of questionnaires, program / script surveys, analyze and create reports that draw out meaningful insights to help inform strategic decisions
  • Client relationship building and management – both internal/cross-departmental clients, and with first party research agencies
  • Pull, clean, and analyze robust data sets to fulfill regular ad hoc requests – with a focus on highlighting serviceable insights tailored to each specific business question
  • Translate research data into concise, actionable insights and recommendations through visual, creative, and compelling story-driven reports. Help key stakeholders understand our narrative around NHL fans, brand health, partner/category engagement and partnership impact
  • Work collaboratively with other business units across the organization to provide more holistic, story-driven insights around fan profiles and partnership effectiveness
  • Employ a strong sense of organization to manage tasks across multiple projects at once and participate in cross-departmental sharing of best practices and collaboration

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
Required
  • Familiarity with syndicated research products and their interfaces (YouGov, Nielsen Scarborough, Global Web Index, etc.)
  • Expertise in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, including use of charting functionality, formula writing, logic statements, pivot tables, index/lookups
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to distill complex ideas into creative, digestible, and data-driven reports/narratives
  • An analytical and critical thinker who can evaluate large sets of data and extract meaningful findings and solutions
  • Understanding of research methodologies and sampling strategies
  • Must be a team player; ability to be flexible and collaborative is a must
  • Ability to work both independently, and within a team, and establish effective interdepartmental relationships
  • Attentive to detail, proactive project management, and strong relationship-building skills
 
Preferred
  • Possess a naturally curious mindset and passion for understanding consumer behavior
  • Drive to contribute both strategically and tactically
  • Enthusiasm for working with data, and always looking to learn
  • Ability to participate in conversation with internal stakeholders to understand project objectives and deliver actionable insights

 Education/Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 1-2 years’ work experience— sports/entertainment experience is a plus

SALARY RANGE:
 $65-70K
 
Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
