Summary  
The position of Mascot Services Coordinator, under the Community Development Department, requires a motivated individual to maintain the mascot program and serve as a brand ambassador for the Columbus Blue Jackets organization at internal and external events with professionalism. The role includes content creation for performances and social media, as well acting as a liaison between the public and the mascot to enhance the brand’s reach and appeal.  
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.   
  • Perform as the team mascot, Stinger, for all home games during the preseason, regular season and playoffs, as well as community, sponsorship and team promotional events. Additionally, represent the team at NHL events such as All-Star Weekend.   
  • Lead and actively promote initiatives that keep Stinger visible in the community and generate revenue for the Foundation. This includes organizing external appearances, game day seat visits, birthday parties, holiday deliveries, etc. 
  • Maintain an active performance calendar, and share, as needed, with necessary parties.  
  • Collaborate closely with the Game Presentation Department to create an engaging and positive atmosphere and memorable experiences for our fans. Ideate family-friendly skits and crowd interactions in arena for the mascot, participate in on-ice promotions, and conceptualize fresh ideas for videos and live performances.  
  • Build relationships with every department head to understand the needs of each department in relation to the Stinger brand. Conduct research and fact finding to facilitate the mascot's branding, personality, style, mannerisms, rituals, and traditions. 
  • With the support of the Digital Content Department, manage and monitor the mascot’s social media presence on popular platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, by creating fresh and engaging content that aligns with organizational objectives to enhance the brand’s reach and appeal.  
  • Source vendors and establish a good working relationship to ensure proper maintenance of mascot costume and oversee the management of inventory of costume items, accessories, props, and signage.
  • Assist the Community Development Department by facilitating events and promoting their initiatives. 
  • Track and maintain a budget for mascot program with a responsibility to keep on target.  
 
Supervisory Responsibilities 
Directly supervises part-time staff for game nights who directly assist with the mascot. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience  
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and at least 3 years of experience in mascot/character performing for a collegiate/professional sports team, or professional entertainment organization is required; other skills such as juggling, unicycling, tumbling, improv, clowning are a plus; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
 
Intermediate/advanced level of ice-skating ability (hockey skates) is required. Hockey knowledge preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license. 
 
Must be available to work during regular office and event hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and be proactive. 
 
Computer Skills  
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge in Microsoft Office Software, Adobe Photoshop and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok.  
 
Physical Demands and Work Environment  
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to withstand and perform within extreme heat conditions. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Due to costume restrictions, candidates must be in the height range of 5’6” to 5’10”.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
