Overview
The Columbus Blue Jackets are seeking an energetic individual who is enthusiastic and committed to promoting fan development and community partnerships to increase brand awareness and grow the game of hockey in central Ohio. This position will be expected to assist on key projects as assigned and take responsibility of daily tasks as outlined by the mentor. This internship will give the student a great first-hand experience (and portfolio materials) from the world of sports.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
Hockey Programs – assist with day-to-day administrative tasks in preparation of and on-site support for entry level street/ice hockey programs for kids such as Get Out And Learn, Learn to Play, and Skills & Drills. Duties to include, but are not limited to, database management, registration and participant check-in process, setup/tear down of clinics and instruction, as needed.
 
Education Programs – opportunities to assist with school initiatives such as Power Play Challenge, Book Jackets, Student Achievers and Hockey Scholar. Duties to include, but are not limited to, email/phone communication to parents and educators, maintain program databases, prize fulfillment and support events at schools, as needed.
 
Special Events – opportunities to assist the Foundation/Community Development department around special events, such as game night 50/50 raffle, jersey raffle, theme nights, Try Hockey for Free Day, OHSAA Hockey State Championship Weekend, Blue Jackets Cup, Girls Hockey Day, and Equipment Sale.
 
Learning Objectives:
  • Knowledge and understanding of event planning.
  • Understanding of basic guest relations and customer service techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of database management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of fan development strategies.
 
Intern Benefits:
  • 20-30 intern hours available each week, plus community events/appearances
  • Internship timeline – September – April
 
Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled in a four-year college or university.
  • Must receive college credit for internship. 
  • Hockey experience and/or skating skills recommended.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel). 
  • Flexibility and willingness to work both traditional and non-traditional office hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
