The Carolina Hurricanes are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Hockey Operations team. The introduction of player and puck tracking technologies presents a unique opportunity to reshape quantitative analysis of the game; we aim to be leaders in making use of that data to obtain a competitive advantage. With that in mind, we are seeking an experienced data scientist to develop and communicate insights that support hockey decision-making throughout the organization.

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical discipline (e.g. engineering, computer science, etc) is required.
  • Expertise in analysis of time series data is required; experience with spatio-temporal data preferred. Examples of possible fields of study include vehicle control software, financial trading algorithms, transportation/logistics software, computational neuroscience, etc. At least two years of professional employment or graduate study in such a field is required.
  • Experience with Python is preferred, but experience with R or other computational programming languages with modern machine learning packages would also be considered.
  • A basic working knowledge of hockey rules and terminology is required.
  • The ideal candidate is innovative, driven, and has strong communication skills.
  • Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US or able to obtain work authorization prior to start.
