The Carolina Hurricanes are looking for an experienced chef to plan and prepare meals for our NHL team. This role is responsible for the seamless execution of all aspects of daily food preparation, including culinary production, procurement, and inventory management, while upholding the highest standards of nutrition, safety, and service excellence. This is a year-round role and will work according to team and player needs.
Daily Job Functions:
- Develop recipes/menus with a commitment to quality and promoting player health and performance in close collaboration with the team’s Registered Dietitian.
- Actively participate in food production and service to ensure all meals meet or exceed established performance and quality benchmarks.
- Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory of food and supplies in alignment with weekly menu plans and operational needs.
- Maintain strong, professional relationships with vendors and purveyors, ensuring the highest quality products and reliable service.
- Maintains labeling standards for food safety and dietary restrictions, and provides alternative recipes and menus to support athletes with food limitations.
- Supports menu integration with nutrition analysis software to provide detailed nutrition information.
- Able to operate autonomously while directing and training staff to help complete tasks
- Foster a collaborative, growth-minded kitchen culture that reflects the values of high-performance sport.
- Maintain work area, coolers, and dry storage in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Ensure all food safety protocols, health codes, and cleanliness standards are consistently met or exceeded.
- Monitor and confirm timely delivery, storage, and rotation of all food and supply items.
- Uphold complete discretion and confidentiality concerning athlete, coaching staff, and organizational information — in alignment with HIPAA and internal privacy protocols.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic kitchen environment.
- Ability to adhere to building policies and event requirements.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects unassisted.
- Ability to work irregular hours according to the team’s schedule and needs.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
Experience and Education:
- A culinary degree is strongly preferred. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Executive Sous Chef in a high-volume culinary environment.
- Creative culinary mindset with a passion for innovation.
- Knowledge of industry trends and a commitment to staying updated.
- ServeSafe certification required.
