The Athens Rock Lobsters are seeking a creative, energetic, and community-focused individual to serve as our Mascot & Community Engagement Coordinator. This full-time role is responsible for bringing our mascot, Clawdius, to life both on game nights and throughout the community, while also building lasting relationships with schools, nonprofits, businesses, and individuals. The right candidate will blend performance skills with strong organizational and communication abilities to make Clawdius a true community fixture and brand ambassador.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Mascot Performance
- Serve as Clawdius at all home games, community appearances, festivals, nonprofit events, school visits, and team functions (minimum 150 appearances annually)
- Participate in photo shoots, commercials, theme night skits, and other entertainment opportunities.
- Ice skating ability preferred but not required.
Community Relations & Outreach
- Build relationships with schools, nonprofits, and youth development organizations.
- Prospect and cultivate new nonprofit partnerships, coordinate donation requests, and host client/community meetings.
- Lead the Rocking and Reading Program, overseeing outreach to schools, promotional materials, videos, and tracking participation.
Marketing & Social Media
- Manage Clawdius’ official social media accounts with engaging content that highlights community appearances and mascot personality.
- Develop grassroots marketing strategies and school-based programs to raise Clawdius’ profile as a community icon.
- Assist in the development and execution of theme nights, promotional skits, and mascot-related fan experience initiatives.
Program Development & Event Management
- Plan and execute structured school programs, nonprofit campaigns, and mascot appearances that support ticket sales and fan engagement.
- Maintain and manage Clawdius’ master schedule of appearances, ensuring timely communication with all partners.
- Provide high-level customer service by responding promptly to requests via phone, email, and in person.
- Assist the ticket sales team by promoting and selling mascot-related packages such as (private) birthday parties, school visits, business appearances, and special events.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Prior mascot, performance, or entertainment experience preferred (sports or community setting ideal).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple events/programs simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, with comfort in public speaking and presenting to schools or community groups.
- Creative, energetic personality with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by game and event schedule.
- Must be comfortable working in costume for extended periods.
- Ice skating ability preferred, but not required.
- Must be able to lift/carry 40+ lbs and perform in physically active settings.
