Job Title: General Manager, Florida Panthers Practice Facility
Department: Ice Den
Reports To: Vice President of Programming & Facility Operations

The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operations of a multi-ice sheet facility to ensure optimal operational and fiscal management.  The General Manager must work closely with and be responsible for the facility’s Hockey Director, Figure Skating Director, Operations Manager, and have the ability to step in and manage each area if the need arises.  The General Manager will also oversee long-term planning, sales/business development, compliance, marketing, brand growth, corporate sponsorships, contracts, program development/administration, customer service, strategic alliances/partnerships, facility operations, F&B, retail, and gym operations.

  • Fiscal Budgeting and Financials 
    • Develop annual operational budget with VP to meet organizational goals 
    • Review and approve weekly, monthly and annual P & L for VP 
    • Work with Assistant GM on aging report/ collection of outstanding balances 
    • Purchase card payment to vendors 
    • Communicate with Accounts Payable on all check payments 
    • Review and approve of facility expenses 
  • Ice Scheduling 
    • Maintain the facilities long range operational calendar 
    • Assist with the Master Ice Schedule 
    • Sell and create private ice rental contracts for 3rd party customers 
    • Create new revenue streams through “out of the box” thinking 
    • Maximize ice utilization in the facility 
  • Customer Service 
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with facility user groups 
    • Responsible for community public relations and patron satisfaction 
    • Assist in creating a welcoming atmosphere through staff training on high level of customer service and care of the facility 
    • Intervene in situations related to public safety 
  • Policies and Procedures 
    • Oversee, maintain and implement all corporate policies and procedures to create uniformity amongst facility 
    • Ensure a positive climate amongst staff members when implementing policies and procedures 
  • Marketing and Advertising
    • Assist in the final approval of marketing materials for all Panthers IceDen departments and ensure information posted on the website is current
  • Facility Operations 
    • Ensure facility meets all local, state, and federal safety requirements at all times 
    • Monitor building security, custodial maintenance, emergency supplies and equipment 
    • Provide a safe, clean, and sanitary environment 
    • Assist with incident reports, getting department change and cashing out departments when there is not an assigned SDO 
    • Lead all key property issues including capital and operational expenditures 
  • Facility Staffing 
    • Review and approve all new hires and independent contractors 
    • Approve Staff Duty Officer schedule 
    • Schedule regular meetings with managers and directors 
    • Conduct semi-annual and annual performance reviews with direct reports 
    • Conduct positive and negative counseling as appropriate with direct reports 
  • Liaise with Florida Panthers Departments
    • Community Relations, Information Technology, Human Resources, Accounting, Ticket Sales, Corporate Partnerships, Operations/Building, Florida Panthers Alumni Association, Pantherland, Legal, Marketing, Foundation, Game Presentation, Public Relations and Communications
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of rink management experience
  • US Ice Rink Association CIT, CRA, CIRM preferred
  • Hockey background experience preferred
  • Youth hockey programming at all levels from grass roots through elite is preferred
  • Proven history of training and developing successful programs
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Ability to communicate effectively to employees, instructors, and customers
  • Talk with parents – address concerns and questions
  • Be organized at all times
  • Flexibility to work all Panthers IceDen events, and irregular hours (late nights, weekends, and holidays) as required as they are integral to the success of the Panthers IceDen facility
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is an exempt position. Must be able to work flexible hours.
