About the Role:

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Accounting, this position is responsible for managing the full cycle accounting process for OEGSE’s real estate and property management businesses.

 

Your Focus in this Role:

  • Manage the accounting team’s day-to-day activities for real estate, property management and construction project accounting.
  • Improve accounting and reporting processes to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with internal controls.
  • Oversee the full accounting cycle for the operations and development portfolio (A/R, A/P, draw processing, job costing, inventory, and revenue recognition).
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and budget-to-actual variance analysis to ensure accurate and reliable accounting records across the portfolio.
  • Lead, train, and mentor accounting team members.
  • Evaluate financial reporting systems and general ledger reporting; design and implement improvements that support operational and financial reporting needs.
  • Drive the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close and review results before finalizing.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting packages for portfolio projects.
  • Perform balance sheet reviews and provide consolidated variance commentary on key accounts.
  • Provide historical financial analysis and variance insights to support budgeting and quarterly forecasting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting.
  • Real estate, property management, or construction accounting experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience in a related field.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and third-party managers.
  • Ability to identify errors, understand underlying drivers, and make decisions that balance operational and financial impacts.
  • CPA designation would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Great Plains, MR) and strong Microsoft Excel skills would be considered an asset.
