About the Role:

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Financial Planning & Analysis, this position is a key member of the Financial Planning & Analysis team, and is responsible for budgeting, forecasting and analysis and reporting across OEG brands and entities. Additionally, serving in the role of Treasurer for the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF), the Director is responsible for coordinating with the EOCF to prepare budgets, monthly and quarterly reports and supports all EOCF reporting and analysis.

 

Your Focus in this Role:

  • Acting as the EOCF Treasurer, responsible for oversight and preparation of Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation financial reporting, budgeting and analysis
  • Maintain an understanding of all EOCF operations, including 50/50 raffle fundraisers, Every Kid Deserves a Shot, Standing Up for Oil Country, Sponsorship, auctions and general fundraising activities
  • Liaison with internal EOCF operations team, EOCF Board of Directors and external parties
  • Prepare information and present for EOCF Board of Directors audit and finance committee meetings
  • Prepare financial analysis and forecast information for EOCF Board of Director meetings. Present and provide recommendations as it relates to strategic initiatives
  • Maintain analysis of EOCF fund balances and prepare regular reports for internal and external requirements. Support analysis of fund commitments and multi-year commitments
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis and reports. In collaboration with FP&A team, utilize financial reporting systems to develop and enhance operational and financial reporting library
  • Prepare NHL Industry Growth Fund applications and regular reporting
  • Support AGLC raffle reporting and analysis
  • Supports the annual financial statement audit, including preparation and review of audit working papers, and coordination with external auditors for the EOCF
  • Support EOCF cash management including cheque signing, cash flow analysis and GIC investment management
  • In collaborate with the accounting team, review of EOCF financial statements on a monthly basis and upon year end, coordination of the annal audit
  • In collaboration with Vice President, Financial Planning & Analysis and the FP&A team, coordinate annual budget preparation for specific OEG companies and its affiliated entities
  • Provides financial analysis of OEG’s operations and accounting information in order to apprise stakeholders of key operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization
  • Support Solver report development, budget analysis and creation, monthly departmental reporting and variance analysis and monthly financial statement review for combining OEG departments
  • Works as a key business partner with the leaders of OEG's operating teams to develop and implement tactics to meet OEG's business objectives and drive continued company growth and success
  • Analyze and interpret data and metrics to make recommendations to steer OEG’s business and drive decision making
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) Designation is required
  • Minimum eight years in an accounting background. Experience with not-for-profit accounting and ASNPO is considered an asset
  • Excellent financial reporting and analytical skills
  • Detail focused, strong business acumen and well versed in financial modelling and analysis
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with staff and 3rd party managers
  • Experience with computerized accounting software (i.e. Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, Solver, etc.) and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of concepts and underlying details, ability to identify errors, and foresight to strategize and make decisions with consideration to both operational and financial implications
