Position Summary
The Worcester Railers are seeking a passionate and creative Music Operator / DJ to help create the energy, atmosphere, and soundtrack of Railers home games.
The Music Operator / DJ is responsible for operating the in-arena music experience from pregame through postgame, execute music cues, respond to game action, and keep fans engaged throughout the night. This role requires someone who understands the flow and nuances of hockey, has a strong passion and knowledge of music, and can make quick, creative decisions in a fast-paced live environment.
The Music Operator / DJ will work closely with the Sr. Director of Marketing to execute the overall game presentation while maintaining ownership of the musical experience. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Game Day Operations & Execution
· Operate the Railers' in-arena music experience for all home games using Sports Sounds Pro.
· Provide music for pregame, gameplay, stoppages, intermissions, postgame and other in-arena moments.
· Read and react to the flow of the hockey game, selecting music that appropriately reflects game situations, momentum, crowd energy and other on-ice moments.
· Anticipate game situations and be prepared with appropriate music for goals, penalties, power plays, penalty kills, fights, stoppages, player introductions and other moments.
· Work closely with the Game Presentation team to follow the game script, cues and overall show flow.
· Maintain creative ownership of music selection while ensuring music supports the overall game presentation strategy.
· Develop and maintain playlists and music libraries appropriate for different game situations, promotions, theme nights and audiences.
· Edit, cut and prepare music and audio files for use during games.
· Ensure all music and audio assets are organized, labeled and readily accessible for game-day use.
· Monitor audio levels and ensure music is appropriately balanced with other elements of the in-arena presentation.
· Assist with the development of new musical ideas, sound cues and audio elements that enhance the Railers' brand and fan experience.
· Attend and participate in game-day meetings, rehearsals and other preparation sessions as needed.
Qualifications
Required
· Strong knowledge and understanding of the game of hockey, including its flow, rules, terminology and common game situations.
· Passion for music and a broad knowledge of musical genres, artists and eras.
· Ability to select appropriate music quickly based on game action, crowd energy and the overall atmosphere in the building.
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure live environment.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to execute multiple cues and tasks simultaneously.
· Ability to cut, edit and manipulate music and audio files.
· Strong communication and collaboration skills.
· Ability to take direction while also demonstrating independent creative judgment.
· Ability to remain focused and engaged throughout an entire game.
· Availability to work all Worcester Railers home games, including preseason and playoffs if applicable.
Preferred
· Previous experience operating music or audio for a professional, collegiate or amateur sports team.
· Previous DJ, live event, concert, arena or entertainment experience.
· Experience using Sports Sounds Pro or similar sports/game presentation audio software.
· Experience working with live audio systems or arena sound environments.
· Experience creating music edits, stingers, loops, mashups or other custom audio elements.
Work Conditions
· Must be available to work all Worcester Railers home games, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift throughout game day operations
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
