Media Relations Coordinator
Role Summary
This role is responsible for compiling, developing, and distributing stats, game notes, and storylines to home broadcasters, away broadcasters, members of the media, and officiating crews for both the Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye. In addition, the position will coordinate media interviews and access to members of both teams promptly and answer credential requests submitted by external parties serving as the primary contact in the media area for game days.
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee gameday media relations efforts for both the Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye.
- Coordinate media interviews and access for media days, practices, and games as needed for both the Toledo Walleye and Toledo Mud Hens.
- Work home games, leading the efforts of pre and postgame interviews, media document management/distribution, and manage gameday player/fanbase interactions (ceremonial first pitch, Sunday pregame autograph sessions).
- Lead efforts to ensure that the designated press and media areas are properly clean and set-up prior to each home game.
- Serve as a liaison between media relations, broadcast and production teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, Sports Management, Communications, or related field.
- At least two years of experience working in sports communications.
- Ability to shoot baseball and hockey games and edit highlights.
- Track record of developing original sports content.
- Strong writing and on-air communication skills.
- Effective use of social media.
Skills and Competencies
- Organized communication professional focused on detail and accuracy of stats and information.
- Experience in developing and creating media guides, game notes, rosters, and press releases for media distribution.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment and industry.
- Have excellent attitude and thrives in a highly collaborative work environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- A working knowledge of the game and history of professional baseball and hockey is recommended.
Working Environment
- Occasionally lifting promotional items and props needed, weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, bend etc. for the duration of the shift.
- Gamedays will be outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
