The Kansas City Mavericks Color Analyst provides expert commentary, analysis, and insights for live broadcasts of all hockey games throughout the season. Working in tandem with a play-by-play announcer, the color analyst offers a deeper understanding of the game's strategy, player performance, and critical moments to enhance the audience's experience. 

Responsibilities
  • Provide live expert commentary: Offer concise, accurate, and insightful analysis of the game as it unfolds during live broadcasts.
  • Research and preparation: Conduct extensive research on teams, players, statistics, and game history to provide relevant and engaging content.
  • Collaborate with the broadcast team: Coordinate with play-by-play announcers, producers, directors, and other production staff to ensure a cohesive and dynamic broadcast.
  • Enhance the narrative: Weave compelling stories and context into the broadcast, drawing from your deep knowledge and experience to captivate the audience.
  • Participate in pre- and post-game coverage: Contribute to segments before and after the game, which may include interviews with coaches and athletes.
  • Engage with the audience: Connect with viewers or listeners through engaging and personality-driven commentary.
  • Maintain professionalism: Adhere to all relevant FCC regulations and uphold journalistic integrity, representing the broadcast network and the sport with professionalism.

Qualifications and skills
  • Proven sports expertise: Extensive knowledge of hockey is essential. Many candidates have a background as a former player, coach, or seasoned journalist.
  • Exceptional communication skills: Must have strong public speaking abilities, a clear and pleasant speaking voice, and the capacity to articulate complex concepts effectively under pressure.
  • Experience in broadcasting: Prior on-air experience in television, radio, or digital broadcasting is highly preferred. A demo reel showcasing your commentary is required.
  • Research abilities: Demonstrated skill in quickly gathering and processing information to provide up-to-date analysis during a live event.
  • Teamwork and collaboration: The ability to work effectively with a broadcast partner and a larger production team.
  • Adaptability: Capability to adjust commentary based on the flow of the game, including unexpected turns of events.
  • Formal education: A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or broadcasting is often preferred, but is not always required if professional experience is significant.

Work environment
  • Live events: Work primarily takes place in broadcast booths or on-site.
  • Flexible schedule: Includes nights, weekends, and holidays, aligned with the sports season.
  • Fast-paced: A dynamic and often demanding environment with tight deadlines and high-pressure situations.
