What You’ll Be Doing
Responsible for assisting with all of the day-to-day functions of the hockey operations department and the head coach
Communicates daily with the Hockey Club General Manager and Head Coach regarding hockey operation issues
Recruiting, scouting (for K-Wings and opposition), player movement including but not limited to trades, waivers, IR, etc.
Management and delegation of accountable personnel as deemed necessary (follow company policies and procedures where applicable)
Motivation and discipline of all personnel he supervises; maintenance of records pertaining to same, goal setting, discipline, hiring, and terminations
Knowledge, completion, and availability of all records and forms pertaining to personnel under your direction including player profile/background sheets, contracts, recruiting efforts, scouting reports, W4, I-9, expenses, insurance, medical forms, and subsequent rehabilitation
Knowledge and adherence to ECHL Rules and Regulations including playing rules, roster guidelines, and salary cap requirements; monitor and execute player transactions on a timely basis
Player travel documentation
Travel itinerary including practice and lodging reservations to players and office personnel; coordinate home practice ice and visiting teams practice ice with Ice Events Coordinator and/or Facility Events Manager of the facility
Timely placement of player’s housing (minimize hotel stays in Kalamazoo), monthly inspections, and furniture inventory
Organization and cleanliness of locker rooms
Payment and documentation of player fines and bonuses
Organization for training camp including reservations, invitations, rosters, and exhibition schedule
Provide and implement a Code of Conduct as approved by the Head Coach and administer discipline in accordance with the Code of Conduct
Provide and monitor on ice and off ice conditioning programs
Personnel accountability to goals and objectives of program; monitor, evaluate, utilize employee input where necessary and provide feedback
Assist staff and ensure needs are met regarding off ice appearances for players and coaching staff; Coach appearances maximum two per week and Coaches Show weekly and talk show every morning following games
What You Need for this Position
Professional playing background
Minimum of Junior A level coaching experience
Strong background in recruiting and teaching
Combined coaching/playing experience may be evaluated to meet minimum requirements
Ability to communicate well, both written and orally
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with management, league officials, facility representatives, the media, fellow employees, and general public
Ability to plan, organize, and implement on and off ice practices, game plans, and recruiting strategies
Ability to generate new and creative ideas to motivate players and staff
Ability to recognize potential problems and implement corrective actions
Ability to prepare effective records
Ability to work long, irregular hours
Ability to motivate team
Ability to analyze hockey video; experience with Steva Sports Software preferred but not required
