Media Relations & Broadcasting Intern

Iowa Heartlanders (ECHL) – Coralville, IA - 2026–27 Season (September-April) 
Position Summary
The Iowa Heartlanders are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Media Relations & Broadcasting Intern to support the Communications Department throughout the 2026–27 ECHL season. This internship provides hands-on experience in professional sports media operations, including game-day broadcasting support, media relations, written content development, and public relations initiatives. While an interest in broadcasting is encouraged, it is not required for this role.

This position is ideal for students pursuing careers in sports broadcasting, journalism, communications, or public relations who are looking to build their portfolio and gain real-world experience in a professional hockey environment.

Responsibilities
Media Relations
  • Assist with writing and editing game previews, recaps, and press releases
  • Compile and distribute game notes and media packets
  • Maintain up-to-date team statistics and player bios
  • Support postgame interviews and media availability coordination
  • Assist with credentialing and responding to media requests

Broadcasting Support
  • Assist with radio and/or streaming broadcasts on game nights
  • Support audio setup, testing, and breakdown on game days
  • Assist with postgame highlight preparation and broadcast-related needs

Content & Communications
  • Conduct research for feature stories and assist with player interviews
  • Gather quotes and develop story ideas for team platforms
  • Collaborate with social media and marketing departments on integrated content
  • Support special events, community appearances, and league initiatives

Game Day Operations
  • Work all Heartlanders home games and be available to assist remotely during road games
  • Support operations in the press box and/or broadcast booth
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Communications Department

Qualifications
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, live-event environments
  • Working knowledge of hockey and the ECHL
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on the team schedule
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud preferred
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact confidently with players, coaches, staff, and media
