JOB SUMMARY:  Academies Assistants, Jr. Hockey/Skating Instructors, and Hockey/Skating Instructors provide support to hockey and skating academies. These positions are not eligible for remote work. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

ACADEMIES ASSISTANT
  • Assist in the set-up and clean-up of group classes, grass roots programs, and kids’ camps
  • Complete off-ice safety orientation and assist skaters with entering and exiting the ice surface 
  • Guide skaters to appropriate class locations
  • Assist customers on ice, as needed

JR. HOCKEY/SKATING INSTRUCTOR
  • Assist in the set-up, instruction, and clean-up of group classes, grass roots programs, and kids’ camp
  • Demonstrate skills and elements as needed in Basic Skills Curriculum
  • Assist in actively recruiting new skaters and lesson participants

HOCKEY/SKATING INSTRUCTOR
  • Lead instruction for participants of all ages in a safe and professional manner
  •  Follow Hockey and/or Skating Academy instructions set forth by the Dallas Stars Basic Skills program and assist in evaluating students for placement
  • Actively recruit new skaters and lesson participants


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Execute policies and procedures professionally and accurately
  • Educate the public on proper equipment and safety procedures required for on-ice activities
  • Communicate clearly with staff and patrons
  • Assist in keeping facility management and parents informed of activities and problems
  •  Understand emergency procedures for equipment and evacuation of the building


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 2 years of hockey and/or skating experience
  • Jr. Hockey/Skating Instructors must be able to demonstrate all elements of the Basic Skills Curriculum
  • Hockey/Skating Instructors must be a member of ISI or US Figure Skating with a comprehensive understanding of figure skating levels and requirements and have completed SafeSport training
  • First aid, CPR, and AED training is preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively while working independently and as a team player
  • Follow all rink rules, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to work flexible hours; evenings and weekends are integral to this position

Physical Demands and Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects and office tools, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is exposed to a rink environment, with noise levels usually moderate.
