The Fifth Third Arena is not only the practice home of the Chicago Blackhawks, but also a community rink that hosts youth teams, high school hockey clubs, adult leagues, public skating, community programs and more on the ice.  Off the ice, the facility boasts a variety of off-ice spaces to host parties, events, or corporate outings.  The rink is always “buzzing” with lots of energy and activity! 

What You’ll Do:    
 Fifth Third Arena is seeking a outgoing and highly motivated individual to join our organization as a Coordinator of Events. This position will oversee all event planning and execution at the Fifth Third Arena, including birthday parties, field trips, special events, corporate outings, private facility rentals, off-ice space bookings, and other rentals/events.  This position will be empowered to grow the event business and exceed customer expectations during event execution.  Candidates should have a passion for event planning/execution and be motivated by results driven success. 

The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced role where attention to detail, organization, customer service, and effective communication are all vital attributes.   The ideal candidate will multitask managing multiple events/clients simultaneously while overseeing part time event staff.

How You’ll Contribute:    

• Serve as a primary point of contact for event bookings and execution including but not limited to birthday parties, special events, field trips, glow hockey parties, room rentals, holiday parties, and corporate outings. 
• Effectively manage P&L for all events.  Ensure collection of payments due. 
• Focus on increase in number of events and event revenue through innovative marketing and product offerings. 
• Ensure all events are booked in facility software as required. 
• Ensure rooms are properly set or communication set-up needs to support staff when not on site. 
• Integrate the Blackhawks brand into event planning whenever possible.  
• Assist with implementation of the rink RDA.  Plan and implement community events and programming. 
• Help in the development of new and innovative ideas to continually support all internal programs and grow the Chicago Blackhawks brand through events. 
• This position will fill weekly font desk shifts at the Fifth Third Arena.  
  1. Oversee day to day operation and facility management during assigned shifts. 
  2. Assist and support large events such as ice covering events or full facility rentals. 
  3. Develop, train, and manage part time staff including Event Attendants and other part time rink staff.
  4. Responsible for keeping the front desk, workstation, and all areas of the facility clean and organized.
  5. Maintaining a professional and organized demeanor when dealing with both internal and external guests and coworkers to provide the highest level of customer service.
  6. Adhere to all policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.  Properly report and document incidents. 
• Support the overall departmental vision by assisting coworkers and working on departmental goals as needed. 
• This position requires working frequently on evenings and weekends. 

What You Bring to the Table:    

• College degree on Tourism, hospitality, Business Administration, or Sports management required. 
• Preferred 1-3 years ice rink management or special event management experience. 
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
• Experience using registration/facility/point of sale software.
• CPR Certification or willingness to be trained.
• Strong organizational skills to manage people and resources to complete projects; able to multitask and plan with an inclusive lens.
• Ability to foster a positive team culture, work well with and collaborate across teams within an organization.
• A demonstrated ability to manage effectively towards outcomes, including setting and managing against long-term & short-term goals.
• Identifies and resolves issues in a timely manner; ability to develop solutions quickly and effectively.

The Fifth Third Arena, Blackhawk Community Ice Rink, LLC, first opened its doors in November 2017 with a focus on ensuring the Chicago Blackhawks’ needs were met through equipment storage space, training rooms, a player’s lounge, weight room, two NHL-size ice rinks, and many other state-of-the-art amenities. The Fifth Third Arena Team is also passionately dedicated to giving back to the local community by providing access to multipurpose rooms, event spaces, program registrations, and drop-In admissions.
