The Carolina Hurricanes are seeking a Motion Graphics Designer to join our Creative team and support motion design and animation across Hurricanes hockey and Lenovo Center events. This role is designed to attract motivated motion designers who want hands-on experience in professional sports and live entertainment. Reporting to the Senior Creative Director, and working in tandem with a Sr. Motion Designer, this position will contribute meaningfully to the look, feel, and evolution of the Hurricanes brand. The role offers exposure to high-profile creative work, including in-game presentation, player features, social content, and large-scale LED and projection environments. 
 
Responsibilities 
  • Design and animate motion graphic assets for Hurricanes and Lenovo Center platforms, including: 
  • Arena video boards, LED ribbons, and on-ice projection 
  • Broadcast and long-form video content 
  • Social, digital, and marketing campaigns 
  • Support high-profile creative needs such as media day content, game opens, pump-up elements, player features, and brand storytelling pieces 
  • Collaborate with the Creative, Video, Photography, Game Presentation, and Entertainment teams to identify strong visual storytelling opportunities 
  • Design, animate, and integrate 2D motion graphics, with opportunities to assist in 3D-based workflows 
  • Support corporate partnerships by producing motion assets for sponsored activations and campaigns 
  • Execute animations from creative direction, storyboards, and design systems while maintaining Hurricanes brand standards 
  • Assist with live-event workflows and in-game execution during Hurricanes home games and select Lenovo Center events 
  • Help organize project files, templates, and assets to support efficient creative workflows 
  • Stay current on motion design trends, tools, and techniques relevant to sports and live entertainment 
  • Participate in creative brainstorms, reviews, and iterative feedback cycles 
 
Qualifications 
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Motion Design, Communications, or a related field OR equivalent professional / portfolio experience 
  • 1–3 years of experience in motion graphics, animation, or visual design 
  • Strong foundation in design fundamentals: typography, layout, composition, color, and pacing 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including: 
  • After Effects 
  • Illustrator  
  • Photoshop 
  • Premiere Pro 
  • Previous experience with Cinema 4D or other 3D tools preferred 
  • Previous exposure to live-event environments (arena boards, LED displays, projection, etc.) 
  • Familiarity with Daktronics systems, Ross Xpression, Unreal Engine, or Blender preferred 
  • Understanding of video production workflows and social/digital content best practices 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects 
  • Ability to take direction, apply feedback, and deliver on deadlines 
  • Passion for sports, creativity, and high-quality work 
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays 
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
