The Lead Steward is responsible for overseeing stewarding operations across assigned kitchens, premium areas, and concessions spaces during events. This role ensures sanitation, organization, and stewarding labor are properly managed to support culinary, concessions, and premium service teams in a large-venue arena environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Supervise and coordinate stewarding staff during events and prep days
- Assign stewarding duties and ensure coverage across dish rooms, kitchens, and service areas
- Ensure all stewarding areas meet sanitation, safety, and health department standards
- Serve as the primary stewarding point of contact for culinary and operations leadership
- Train and coach Stewards staff on procedures and expectations
- Monitor dish room flow, equipment usage, and labor efficiency
- Coordinate deep cleaning schedules and post-event breakdowns
- Identify and report maintenance, safety, or staffing issues to management
- Assist with inventory and organization of stewarding supplies and equipment
- Lead by example in maintaining a clean, professional, and efficient work environment
Experience / Qualifications:
- Prior lead steward or supervisory experience in a high-volume or arena/stadium environment strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of sanitation standards, cleaning chemicals, and safety procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with team members and leadership
- Ability to manage multiple work areas simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to train, motivate, and hold staff accountable
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal directions
- Ability to adhere to building policies and event requirements
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and use stairs as needed
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted
- Ability to remain alert and observant to avoid accidents and safety hazards
- Ability to work long, irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as event schedule dictates
- Must pass criminal background check
This is a non-exempt hourly position.
