Photography Intern
Summary
Hockey Western New York is looking for a Seasonal Photography Intern to join the photography staff for the 2026-2027 season. This job entails producing high quality content on tight deadlines for home games, practices, studio campaigns, community events, and business development objectives as well as other relevant internal requests for both the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bandits. This part-time, seasonal internship is an onsite role in Buffalo, New York.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create high-end still photography for the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bandits.
- Assist in photo asset management process including curation and maintenance of PhotoShelter and physical archive.
- Creatively handle studio portraits, on-location events, concerts, press conferences, food, and venue photography.
- Produce compelling content in high-pressure, deadline situations.
- Provide production assistance to all Digital Strategy staff as needed.
- Handle photography equipment with care and ensure proper maintenance.
- Represent Hockey Western New York in a professional manner.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Other related duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications for the Position:
- Candidate is at least 18 years of age.
- Must submit a digital portfolio to be considered.
- Pursuing or completed a Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s degree with equivalent experience.
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom, PhotoMechanic, and Microsoft.
- Working knowledge of Sony Alpha cameras and Profoto Lights.
- Prior hockey experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience with an athletic department, pro team or experience with a professional media outlet is preferred but not required.
- Understanding of basic metadata.

Compensation & Hours
This role pays $16.00 an hour. This is a part time role and must have the flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, weekends and holidays. This is a temporary position for the 2026-2027 season.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This internship operations in both an office setting and in a live events setting. Live event coverage does consist of being around loud stadium noises and crowds.
While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, run, reach, kneel, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. Candidate must be able to operate, transport and manipulate camera equipment up to 50 pounds.
