POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The College & Athletic Recruiting Counseling / Outplacement Coordinator leads all efforts to guide student-athletes and families through the college recruiting, NCAA eligibility, academic planning, and outplacement process. This role focuses on aligning each student-athlete’s academic schedule, athletic goals, and recruiting strategy to maximize college placement opportunities at the Division I, II, III, NAIA, and preparatory school levels.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Athletic Recruiting & College Placement
  • Develop individual recruiting plans for each student-athlete, including target school lists, highlight video support, and outreach timelines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with college coaches, recruiters, and admissions staff to expand opportunities for TSJ PA athletes.
  • Host college recruiting seminars, signing day events, and showcases to connect student-athletes with next-level opportunities.
  • Stay current on NCAA recruiting calendars, rules, and contact periods, ensuring families and coaches understand key deadlines and regulations.
NCAA Eligibility & Academic Planning
  • Guide students in course selection and academic planning to ensure NCAA Core Course and eligibility requirements are fully met.
  • Track academic progress and GPA benchmarks for NCAA and college admissions standards, collaborating with academic staff and coaches for early interventions.
  • Coordinate standardized testing timelines (SAT, ACT) and test prep resources for college admissions and athletic scholarships.
Family & Student Engagement
  • Provide one-on-one family meetings to review recruiting status, academic requirements, and college options.
  • Host parent education sessions on athletic scholarships, financial aid, recruiting rules, and eligibility timelines.
  • Create a college recruiting resource hub with sample emails, highlight video guidelines, and recruiting timelines.
Outplacement Support
  • Support student-athletes seeking transfers to boarding schools, preparatory academies, or postgraduate programs that align with their athletic and academic goals.
  • Partner with the Head of School and coaches to recommend next steps for student-athletes requiring specialized placement options.
Collaboration & School Integration
  • Work closely with coaches, the High-Performance team, and academic staff to integrate recruiting updates into athletic programming.
  • Track and celebrate college commitments and signing day events to showcase TSJ PA success stories across marketing and social media platforms.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Sports Management, or related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 3–5 years in college counseling, athletic recruiting coordination, or athletic administration roles.
    • Deep familiarity with NCAA eligibility requirements, recruiting processes, and athletic scholarship opportunities.
    • Experience working with high school or prep school student-athletes strongly preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong network of college coaches and recruiting contacts across multiple sports.
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with families, coaches, and colleges.
    • Ability to manage large caseloads while meeting deadlines and individual student needs.
    • Proficiency in recruiting and college counseling software (e.g., NCSA, Hudl, Naviance).
