The St. James Performance Academy (TSJ PA) is a premier holistic performance and education institution dedicated to developing the next generation of elite student-athletes. TSJ PA operates within a blended-learning academic model in which live, teacher-led instruction is delivered virtually through our K-12 partner platforms, while students complete their coursework on campus within a structured, high-performance environment. Academic Success Educators (ASEs) play a central role in this model, serving as the primary academic facilitators and advocates for each student-athlete. ASEs are responsible for monitoring daily academic engagement, supporting executive functioning and study skills, communicating with virtual instructors and families, and ensuring the overall academic progress, accountability, and success of every TSJ PA student-athlete.

Position Description:
The Academic Success Educator supports the academic growth and personal development of student-athletes at The St. James Performance Academy. This role is assigned to either High School or Elementary/Middle School cohorts based on the educator’s qualifications and experience. The position works closely with the Director of the Academy to foster the skills, behaviors, and habits that drive academic achievement, personal responsibility, and lifelong learning in a performance-focused environment.
Responsibilities:
- Implement the academic policies and procedures of The St. James Performance Academy to ensure a structured, safe, and success-driven learning environment.
- Deliver subject-specific academic support and coaching aligned with each student-athlete’s personalized learning plan while facilitating rigorous academics through our blended learning curriculum.
- Monitor, evaluate, and clearly communicate student-athlete progress to families and Academy leadership through structured, thorough, and reliable reporting channels.
- Meet with students individually and in small groups to review academic content, clarify concepts, and support assignment completion.
- Assist in developing and monitoring Student-Athlete Development Plans (SADPs),
- Provide guidance in study strategies, executive functioning skills, time management, and goal setting.
- Adapt support strategies to align with varied learning styles and student needs, helping learners build confidence and academic independence.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records on student progress, intervention strategies, and development needs.
- Collaborate with academic and athletic staff to ensure continuity between classroom expectations and training schedules.
- Support classroom management, assist with behavior strategies, and reinforce academic routines as needed.
- Participate in family engagement efforts, including back-to-school nights, parent information sessions, and open house events.
- Assist in facilitating Shadow Days and interviews for prospective student-athletes (November through May).
- Coordinate with the Academy team to execute community service initiatives and civic engagement opportunities.
- Contribute to ongoing development of academic programming, resources, and best practices in alignment with Academy goals.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to advance the mission and strategic plan of The St. James Performance Academy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field preferred
- Experience working with student-athletes or in a performance-focused academic environment strongly preferred
- Familiarity with K-12 academic standards and student support services
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate across departments and with families
- Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to maintaining confidentiality and data integrity
- Ability to mentor and support students with empathy, structure, and high expectations
- Flexible and willing to engage in evening/weekend programming as needed
