About this role:
The Managing Director, Finance is responsible for oversight of all day-to-day activities of the Finance Department, encompassing Controllership, Financial Planning & Analysis, Treasury and Tax functions. This includes monthly & annual closes and financial reporting; preparation of the consolidated audited financial statements; all required federal and state tax filings including the annual 990; accounts receivable and payable activities; maintenance of the internal control environment; annual budget; long and short term forecasts; strategic modeling, key metrics and analyses of operating results against goals. The Managing Director, Finance, establishes the process and cadence of these activities, as well as develops board-level financial presentations and management reporting to enable business decision-making. This position will also be instrumental in selecting and implementing systems and processes to drive behavior and improve financial planning and outcomes. This dynamic and highly visible role requires an individual that develops positive relationships across the organization, and drives a collaborative team with solid financial acumen. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
What you'll do:
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead the annual budget process and prepare current-year and long-range forecasts. Conduct annual fully allocated P&L analysis. Provide/support relevant business and financial systems. Evaluate financial performance and variance drivers as well as potential risks and opportunities to the organization.
- Prepare quarterly business review presentations with Executive/Board of Director level commentary. Plan, prepare and organize all activities required to support both the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee and the Investment Committee of the Board (USGA Executive Committee).
- Spearhead development of advanced financial models/data analytics regarding profitability and ROI as well as cash flow forecasting.
- Perform special analyses, such as product-level profitability, reserve requirement analyses and expense contingency planning. Identify inefficiencies and spearhead process improvements.
Controllership
- Conduct monthly closing and prepare/oversee monthly accounting and management reporting including variance analysis to budget, forecast and prior year. Prepare and/or review timely, accurate and detailed reports of financial performance. Prepare the consolidated audited financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Liaise with the external auditors to ensure timely completion of the annual financial and pension audit as well as any special audits.
- Oversee all aspects of the accounts payable and T&E operations. Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures to improve AP processes and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Oversee the accounts receivable function including, client invoicing, aging analysis and collections. Ensure PCI compliance and enhance the client billing experience.
- Develop and maintain the internal controls environment to protect the assets and integrity of the organization.
Tax
- Manage the organization’s tax activities, including federal and state filings along with UBIT estimates and filings, sales & use tax and Championship tax requirements.
Cash Flow
- Oversee investments, manage banking relationships and cash flow. Perform cash flow forecasting.
Talent Development/Mentorship/Financial Education
- Pro-actively invest in staff and their professional development, serving as a “player coach” and mentor. Present financial results and relevant policies, project updates and insights into the finance function.
Where you'll be:
- This role will be based at our Liberty Corner, NJ campus on a hybrid schedule. Employees are expected to spend 3 days per week working in the office, between Monday - Thursday.
What you bring:
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required. MBA and/or CPA is a plus.
- 15+ years relevant experience required
- Non-profit experience is a big plus, including proficiency in non-profit accounting standards and reporting
- Exceptional executive presence and emotional intelligence, building trust, inspiring teams and influencing key stakeholders across all levels
- Demonstrated experience in building financial acumen and awareness within an organization
- Ability to develop analyses in support of business decision-making
- Strong communication/presentation skills, both written and oral
- Strong relationship building skills
- Ability to effectively manage projects, be nimble, and work within deadlines with a results-oriented approach
- Proficient/Advanced Excel and modeling skills
- Proficient PowerPoint skills
- Excellent organizational skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Interest in golf and/or sports business a plus

Job Location: Liberty Corner, NJ
Salary Range: $225,000 - $275,000
The annual base salary range for this position is $225,000 - $275,000. This range represents what we reasonably expect to pay as starting base compensation for this role. Compensation is based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, and relevant certifications. In addition to your base compensation, the USGA provides competitive benefit offerings for all full-time employees.
