General Counsel/Contractual Law
Summary:
The Associate Counsel/Counsel will provide in-house legal support across all departments of the WTA, offering guidance on a broad range of legal matters. Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing contracts, administering WTA Rules and policies, supporting governance and compliance efforts, and servicing WTA tournament and player members. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with strong drafting skills, sound legal judgment, and sharp business acumen.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
·         Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to all WTA departments on business and legal matters.
·         Draft, review, and manage a variety of agreements, including but not limited to, services, vendor, event, independent contractor, and venue rental agreements.
·         Draft WTA member agreements, including but not limited to, tournament agreements, player consents, and player annual forms.
·         Review and advise on existing contracts and related legal documents.
·         Draft communications and educational materials for WTA staff and members, including players and tournaments.
·         Interpret, draft, and administer WTA Rules, governing documents, and policies; conduct investigations related to rule and policy compliance.
·         Support administrative legal proceedings (e.g., safeguarding, code of conduct).
·         Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with evolving legal and regulatory standards.
·         Conduct legal research and analysis as needed.
·         Assist with general commercial transactions.
·         Provide legal support for WTA Board activities and governance matters.
·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
·         Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
·         Active member of a State Bar in good standing.
·         4–6 years of experience in transactional law, with a focus on contract drafting and regulatory matters.
·         Experience in sports or entertainment sectors strongly preferred.
·         In-house legal experience and familiarity with administrative proceedings (e.g., safeguarding, code of conduct) is a plus.
·         Experience with trauma-informed care and response is a plus.

·         Commercially minded with strong analytical and organizational skills.
·         Professional and confident communicator, capable of advising senior executives and Board directors.
·         Experience in contract law and corporate governance.

Position Type/Work Schedule:
Full Time, 40 hours a week. Typical schedule will be Monday-Friday.
