Paid Undergraduate internship positions assisting the USTA business unit identified below with project-driven tasks including Marketing, Social Media, Digital Strategy, Human Resources, etc. The internship runs from June 8th through August 14th. The internship schedule is a 32-hour workweek (Monday – Friday). No housing provided. There are 10 internships located in the White Plains, NY and 2 in Queens, NY. location Please select up to two of the Departments.     

  • Information Technology (Queens) - will assist desktop support staff in preparation for the US Open Tennis Championships, setup of computers, update computers and check equipment. Candidate should be studying computer science or information systems, be proficient in networking, Windows and Macintosh Operating Systems, Microsoft Office and Google for Work apps.   
  • Ticket Operations (Queens) - Will work on a variety of US Open Ticketing-related projects and will interact with staff and other departments to gain a better understanding of the US Grand Slam tournament. The position will mirror the roles and responsibilities of the seasonal Ticket Office Client Services Representative staff, which includes providing customer service and enhancing the USTA's image by following established customer service policies/procedures. Candidate should be skilled in Gmail, Microsoft Office programs, specifically Word, Excel and Access. Experience in Ticketmaster systems a plus, but not required. Must also have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be customer service driven. Must have the ability to learn quickly and efficiently. Candidates with ability to speak, read and/or write in multiple languages will be given preference.   
  • US Open Digital Strategy & Partnership and Premium Hospitality (WP) - Position provides the opportunity to work with the US Open Digital and Hospitality teams to gain significant experiential training and the opportunity for research in the field of professional sports operations. The intern will become fully immersed in US Open digital and ticketing operations through project-driven work. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), as well as Google Suite programs (Sheets, Slides, Docs, etc). Candidate should also have an interest in and basic knowledge of digital industry and social trends.   
  • Merchandising (WP) - will assist with internal sales of US Open and USTA merchandise (manage paperwork, deliver product, ship/receive, manage inventory). Candidate should have working knowledge of Excel, specifically for accounting and managing/manipulating inventory lists. Must have great attention to detail, be approachable, have an upbeat personality and be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Position will move to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, NY on August 1st in preparation for the US Open. Ability to extend work through August 30th a plus.   
  • Video Services (WP) - will assist in a number of annually recurring and impromptu projects, including but not limited to: Anthem Singer & Ball person tryout shoots; Birthday editing for Social Media; Logging; and various research projects. This is a hands-on position and will include on location shoots. Candidate must have basic computer proficiency and experience with cameras. Basic audio and lighting experience required (working knowledge preferred). Basic to moderate experience with editing and graphics software, including Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator a plus. A strong interest in tennis and/or sports video or production preferred. Most important is the candidate’s willingness and desire to participate in a flexible and constantly evolving environment.   
  • USTA Foundation (WP) - In preparation for the Foundation’s US Open events, assist with various event logistics including, but not limited to: event awareness, outreach to local media, large mailings, guest incentives, vendor tracking, promotional packets, gift bags, and more. As part of donor relations, assist in the process of researching current and prospective donors, creating donor/prospective donor profiles, and entering data and creating plans for donor outreach. Candidate should be proficient in Google Suite products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.), be a creative thinker, passionate about working with under-resourced youth and communities, technologically savvy, detail oriented, have excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service skills and interpersonal skills. Highest standards of confidentiality and discretion are expected.   
  • Creative Marketing (WP) - Students interested in building real-world graphic design experiences with an in-house team are a perfect fit for this position! The team is looking for a talented and knowledgeable designer with fresh, creative ideas and an excellent eye for detail. Position will assist in the production of materials for the US Open, US Open Series, Net Generation and Community Tennis events. This includes both print materials and digital items. Candidate must have a working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud (INDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Ideal candidate is a current design student.   
  • Digital (WP) - USTA's Digital Team is looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing, critically thinking intern to help us introduce new digital products for tennis providers and players! There will be opportunities to test new software, review designs, analyze data, and be part of a dynamic, hard-working team! The intern will assist with a variety of projects in our Digital department, which may include software testing, UX/UI review, analysis of data, vendor and/or software comparison. Candidate must be very comfortable with technology, think critically and analytically, enjoy problem solving, be a quick learner, and have a passion for quality and teamwork. Some knowledge of tennis is a plus but not required. Candidate should be skilled in Google products (Docs, Sheets, Slides). Must also have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be enthusiastic and outgoing, and be customer service oriented.   
  • Diversity & Inclusion (WP) - will assist D&I team with preparation for several US Open events and meetings. Duties will include creation of marketing materials, managing event guest lists and US Open ticket orders, gifting, and demographic research. Intern will also work on projects related to the USTA’s 7 Business Resource Groups. Candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Office products (specifically PowerPoint), Gmail and Google Suite products, and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work through the first week of the US OPEN a plus.  
  • Partnership Marketing (WP) - Position provides an opportunity to work with the US Open Partnership Marketing team to gain significant experiential training in the field of professional sports sponsorship. The intern will become fully immersed in US Open sponsorship planning and management through project driven training. Candidate must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), as well as Google programs (sheets, docs, slides, Hangout meetings, etc.), along with a general interest and basic knowledge of the sponsorship industry and trends, including social media. Beginning August 1st, this position will work out of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, NY to support the on-site event set up related to Fan Week and sponsor activation.  
  • IT Pro Tennis (WP) - Intern will review, analyze and evaluate business systems and user needs, document requirements, define scope and objectives and formulate systems to parallel overall business strategies. Must be familiar with relational database and client-server concepts. Intern will rely on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Candidate must possess an understanding of relational databases, with experience with SQL strongly preferred. Additionally, candidate must have an understanding of the software development lifecycle, user interface (UI) and user experience (UE), possess strong analysis skills, be a team player and have the ability to see the big picture.  
Organizational Development/HR (WP) - If you’re ready to explore a role in Learning and Development/Human Resources and build real-world experience with employee development and the coordination of HR policies and procedures, this is the internship for you. Candidate should have an interest in the business of people, be proficient in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite and navigating databases, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, possess an ability to work in a team-oriented environment and have strong organization skills and attention to detail. Some of the intern projects will include Outreach with external partners and coordinating meetings, Updating and running reports on our database, Proofread HR documents , Spearheading research projects for employee engagement opportunities.
