Analyzes and maintains a complete and accurate general ledger; prepares managerial and financial reports for Section offices.  Responsibilities also include reviewing account classification on expenditures, account analysis and reconciliation, budget variance analysis and month-end reporting.  Onboard new Sections, train new Section Accountants, and serve as the primary backup for Sections.

RESPONSIBILITIES (Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

Responsible for the monthly financial close by preparing account reconciliations, submitting journal entries and working with Sections to obtain relevant information.

 

Perform month/quarter-end closings.

 

Track fixed assets and review depreciation schedules.

 

Provide support as needed to Executive Directors and Section Staff.

 

Prepare Financial Statements.

 

Review Financial Statements with the Section Executive Director.

 

Work with accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure processing is timely and accurate.

 

Train the Section staff on accounting policies and procedures.

 

Assist Sections in preparation and review of annual Operating Budget.

 

Assist in the setup of new Sections entering the Section Financial Program.

 

Serve as lead on special projects and department initiatives as assigned.

 

Serve as backup for assigned Sections.

 

Bring forth ideas to enhance and improve processes and procedures.

 

Develop and implement methodologies designed to improve tracking and reporting of financial and performance metrics.

 

Be proactive and find ways to add value to department, peers, and Section offices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree:  (B. A.) in Accounting. 

Five years of experience in Accounting, with GL experience required. Strong knowledge of the month-end close process.

Workday Financials experience is strongly preferred.

Google Suite experience preferred

CPA preferred

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Must have knowledge of accounting principles and practices; knowledge of Financial Information Systems.  Must have the ability to apply strong analytical and reasoning skills to interpret accounting laws, etc.  Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive data.  Must have the ability to support 3 - 4 Sections. Strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Ability to travel up to 15%
