This position will offer exposure to the competition, operations, administration, and volunteer program at our various Championships.

RESPONSIBILITIES (Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

Provide operational function/support in course preparations, which may include but not limited to, course marking, rope and stake installation, course signage and on course leader boards.

Provide administrative function/support, computer scoring operations (Golf Genius) and communication support for PGA Member, Spectator and Amateur Championships as assigned.

Assist with all Championship event shipping and receiving.

Assist with organizing set ups of temporary on-site Championship Offices.

Assist with Championship volunteer operations.

When the event is completed, assist the Championship Department Staff with the breakdown of the course, offices, volunteer headquarters and other areas to be determined at site.

Assist with the unpacking and packing of the two semi-trailers for events the intern is working.

Assist Championship Department Staff elsewhere when needed.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma, or equivalent.  Must be a rising Junior or above enrolled in a degree program or a recent college graduate.

Golf background or strong interest in golf required

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must have knowledge of business operations with an emphasis in administrative support, finance and/or operations. Working knowledge of computer design software such as Adobe Creative Suite. Working knowledge of Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sheets, and Google Docs. Basic fluency in artificial intelligence (AI) tools and concepts. This includes using AI to enhance business operations and drive innovation, enabling us to better serve our Members and stakeholders.

Ability to travel for extended periods in various modes of transportation, which will include overnight travel, at times in excess of 7 nights at a time (when at the event site), is required.

Ability to work overtime, including weekends (sometimes up to 15 hours a day). 

Ability to transport moderately heavy tournament equipment and supplies.

Events Scheduled to Work:

  • Winter Championships – PGA Golf Club – Port St. Lucie, Florida (January – February)

  • Sr. PGA Championship – The Concession Golf Club  – Bradenton, Florida (April)

  • PGA Professional Championship – Bandon Dunes Resort – Bandon, Oregon (April)

  • PGA Championship – Aronimink Golf Club – Newtown Square, Pennsylvania (May)

Past interns have secured jobs with the PGA of America Championship Department, PGA of America sections, PGA Tour, and some have become Head Golf Professionals at prestigious courses in the country. 

Schedule:

  • January 4 - February 20: Winter Championships - PGA Golf Club - Florida  ~60 OT hours

  • April 7- April 12: SR PGA Championship - The Concession Golf Club - Florida ~60 OT hours

  • April 12 - May 2: PGA Professional Championship - Bandon Dunes Resort - Oregon ~60 OT hours

  • May 5 - May 18: PGA Championship - Aronimink Golf Club - Pennsylvania  ~70 OT hours

Hourly Rate:     $14.05 per hour

Length of Intern:  4 months
