Position: Assistant Golf Professional
Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Head Golf Professional

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Golf Professional assists the Head Golf Professional in the management of day-to-day golf operations of the facility while providing customers with a pleasant golf and hospitality experience. Golf operations responsibilities include maintaining the golf shop (checking-in members/guests, assisting with retail/purchasing, etc.), providing golf instructions through lessons, and ensuring the golf operations of the course are running properly. This position will receive direct supervision and is expected to work collectively with other members of the Golf Operations staff to service the patrons of Poppy Hills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate member & guest golfer check-in and fee collection for all golf shop purchases; control and manage play
  • Assume departmental leadership role, coordinating the flow of information between the Golf Shop and Outside Service staff
  • Responsible for accurately opening and closing the golf shop
  • Manage the daily tee sheet in accordance with the facility green fee structure
  • Assist in tournament operations and weekly events including planning, promotion, course set-up, preparation, scoring, prize distribution, and follow up
  • Assist in the inventory control of hard goods, soft goods, and special orders including ordering procedures, receiving procedures, inputting into point of sale, pricing procedures, display, and sales
  • Assist with the administration of applicable staff via recordkeeping, work schedules, etc. in accordance with facility human resource policies
  • Assist in coordinating golf activities with other departments
  • Conduct individual and group lessons
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner and always maintain a professional image
  • Support safe work habits and a safe working environment at all times
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings
  • Additional duties as assigned, including professional development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing in an active classification; or actively pursue PGA membership (if a PGA Apprentice) in a timely manner through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGA PGM) program
  • Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
  • Fundamental supervisory practices and principles
  • Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. Remain up to date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies
  • Good communication skills both verbally and written
  • Ability to communicate in the English language
  • Experienced in tournament software operation
  • Exceptional computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher. Proficient in other applications, i.e., email, Google Suite, CRM software preferred.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This is a full-time, Non-Exempt position, with a starting salary of $22.00-$25.00 per hour based on experience. Some clothing will be provided, with the employee expected to source and maintain a high-standard of attire at all times. Benefit package includes health, dental and vision insurance. Dependents may be added with premiums paid by the employee. Participation in the company’s 401k plan after one full year of employment. PTO, holidays, meals, and golf benefits also included.
