Job Summary:  
The Golf Instructor is a full-time position responsible for leading Player & Youth Development (PYD) programming in the San Fernando Valley community, with potential assignments at other sites as needed. Our PYD team members are experts in youth development and junior golf instruction and are recognized as leaders in the junior golf field. They are passionate about helping kids reach their potential on and off the course.  
  
As the lead coach on-site, the Golf Instructor will conduct all golf activities and collaborate closely with the Managers, Program Coordinator, and team to develop, improve, and expand programs in the San Fernando Valley communities. The PYD team is dedicated to growing junior golf and nurturing lifelong golfers throughout the community. Golf Instructors play a crucial role in upholding the standards of the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation, creating positive experiences and lasting impressions for all participants.  
  
This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evening and weekend hours, and may involve working at various sites within the assigned geographic area. The starting pay for this position is $21.00 per hour. This role falls within a compensation scale, and the hourly rate may increase based on demonstrated knowledge, experience, and expertise. What You’ll Do:  
  • Lead golf instruction across beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, including regular practices and special events.  
  • Implement and uphold SCGA Junior Golf Foundation’s program and safety policies at assigned community facilities.  
  • Support curriculum development and program improvement by participating in team debriefs, offering feedback, and adjusting instruction based on participant progress.  
  • Provide regular oversight, coaching, and mentorship to part-time youth coaches to ensure consistency in delivery and alignment with our coaching philosophy.  
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new coaches, modeling SCGA Junior’s standards for positive, development-focused instruction.  
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth participants and fellow coaches, fostering a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.  
  • Deliver clear and professional communication to community partners, families, and facilities regarding programming and initiatives.  
  • Build strong relationships with players, families, volunteers, and site staff to create a supportive program culture.  
  • Manage daily program operations, including attendance tracking, roster management, equipment inventory, and timely data collection and reporting.  
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and lesson development as needed.  
  • Offer one-on-one instruction and guidance to juniors when appropriate.  
  • Assist with the planning and execution of tournaments, enrichment events, and community outreach efforts, representing the Foundation as a lead instructor when needed.  
  • Identify potential outreach partnerships to help expand community engagement.  
  • Stay current on best practices by participating in trainings and workshops focused on golf instruction, youth development, and inclusive coaching.  
  • Act as a positive ambassador for the game of golf and the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation.  
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.   

This position generally follows a Saturday through Wednesday schedule, with evenings and weekends required to align with programming needs. Schedule flexibility is expected, and staff will follow a track-based scheduling system to ensure appropriate coverage, rest, and balance across the team.

What You’ll Need:  
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.  
  • At least one year of experience as a Golf Instructor or in a golf coaching/supportive role, with additional preferred experience in youth development or community outreach.  
  • High level golf playing experience or coaching experience at a high level strongly preferred 
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; outgoing and comfortable presenting to small groups.  
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with other departments and team members to achieve organizational goals.  
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, pivot, and adapt to changing situations and environments.  
  • Enthusiasm to work with youth groups and children of all ages within the community.  
  • Ability to consistently convey a positive, professional, and approachable demeanor.  
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, including bending/stooping; lift and move up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and move up to 50 lbs. with minimal assistance.  
  • Capable of working outdoors for extended periods and in various weather conditions.  
  • Flexible schedule, with availability to work evenings and weekends as required.  
  • Reliable transportation with the ability to travel and arrive punctually at assigned work locations.
