Position Summary: 
The Golf Instructor position is full-time opportunity responsible for leading all player and youth development (herein PYD) programming in Southwest and Southeast LA communities. Other programming sites may be assigned as needed. The PYD team members are experts in youth development and in teaching golf to juniors, and are considered to be leaders in the junior golf field. They are passionate about helping kids achieve their potential on and off the course. The Golf Instructor serves as the lead coach on site while conducting all golf activities. The Golf Instructor works closely with the Assistant Director and team to develop, improve and expand the program in Southwest and Southeast LA communities. The PYD team is dedicated to expanding junior golf and developing lifelong golfers throughout the community. Golf Instructors are a key stakeholder to uphold the standards of the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation, while making positive impressions and making great experiences for all.  
 
The incumbent of this position must be available to work a flexible schedule, to include evening and weekend hours.  Position assignments may be assigned by geographic areas and may require being scheduled and working at various sites within the assigned area.  The rate of pay for this position starts at $21.00 per hour, and is eligible for full-time benefits plan.  
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Be a positive ambassador for the sport of golf and the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation. 
  • Accountable for the oversight and implementation of program and safety policies at assigned community facilities. 
  • Provide oversight and feedback on a regular basis to team of part-time youth coaches.  
  • Serve as a positive role model and influence to assigned youth players and coaches. 
  • Set a standard for development by using positive reinforcement when instructing and coaching in an organized and safe manner. 
  • Serves as a lead golf coach at beginner,intermediate  and advanced practices and other events as necessary.   
  • Capable of providing strong verbal and written communications and notifications to community members, facilities, and community partners regarding programming, initiatives, etc.  
  • Assist in identifying and determining outreach organization partners to better promote the Foundation’s community engagement initiatives.   
  • Provides one-on-one instruction to juniors on an as-need basis. 
  • Collects, records and produces accurate and timely reports of program data 
  • Manages attendance, rosters, equipment inventories and data capture related to all programming  
  • Develops curriculum and lesson plans as needed.  
  • Other duties and tasks as necessary and relevant. 
 
Minimum Skills & Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study and/or combination of acceptable education and relative work experience.  
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a Golf Instructor or in a golf coaching or supportive role, with additional preferred experience working in youth development or community outreach position. 
  • Customer service approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; outgoing and comfortable in administering small group presentations.  
  • Ability to work independently while also effectively interacting and collaborating with other departments and team members to achieve various organizational goals. 
  • Able to troubleshoot, pivot and adapt to changing situations and environments. 
  • Eagerness to work within the community with youth groups and children of all ages. 
  • Conveys a positive demeanor that is professional and approachable at all times. 
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, to include bending/stooping; able to lift and move up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and move up to 50 lbs. with minimal assistance. 
  • Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time and in various elements of weather. 
  • Flexible schedule; must be available to work evenings and weekends as required. 
  • Access to reliable transportation and able to travel with timely arrival to assigned working locations as required.
