Job Summary:  
The Director, Governance & Administration is a critical member of the SCGA’s executive leadership team. This role is responsible for administrative oversight of Human Resources, helps develop organizational policies in relation to Human Resource efforts and performs other key administrative responsibilities related to the success of the organization. This role also supports the CEO with regard to Board of Directors and Committee activities as warranted. The Director, Governance & Administration regularly thinks from a strategic organizational perspective and ensures that organizational strategy is translated into effective, aligned, and efficient day-to-day operations. 

This is a full-time, exempt position with compensation starting at $125,000.
 
What You’ll Do: 

Human Resources Management 
  • Serves as the central interface between the SCGA / SCGA Foundation and its human resources function, with focus on assuring legal and practical aspects of an employee’s experience are met. 
  • Plays a key role, along with the CEO, in policy development associated with employees and their rights, benefits, and obligations in connection with human resources expertise. 
  • Responsible for assuring communications are provided to employees associated with said rights, benefits, and obligations, and maintains records of all employee-related policies and procedures in a manner that is consistent and accessible for employees to access. 
  • Oversees staff orientations and ongoing staff training in consultation with HR.
  • Oversees the employee review process in consultation with HR.
  • Participates with HR and fellow staff members in procedural development for onboarding and offboarding employees.
  • Oversight of employee and office experience, including direct supervision and oversight of the SCGA’s Workplace Experience Manager.

SCGA Board of Directors & Committee Activity
  • Oversees effort in assuring the SCGA Board of Directors and its committees have written records of decisions and meetings that are housed and available to appropriate parties.
  • Manages the content of the SCGA Board Portal to ensure accurate and valid information is available.
  • Maintains and updates the SCGA Board of Directors’ Handbook. 
  • Maintains and updates the SCGA Board of Directors’ Matrix, while assisting in identifying organizational needs in pursuit of new board members.
  • Responsible for onboarding and educational efforts tied to new board members.
  • Together with the Workplace Experience manager, helps facilitate organizational meetings and events, including both on- and off-site meetings for staff, board members, and committees. 
  • Plays a key role in the conduct and administration of the SCGA Annual Meeting.  
 
Organizational Leadership
  • Participates as a member of the Executive Leadership Team in strategic organizational planning and works closely with this team in support of organizational projects and initiatives.
  • Plays a key role in the development of annual objectives while monitoring organizational progress. 
  • Supports the CEO in relation to its legal representatives, including General Counsel, and the organization’s legal matters.
  • Actively engages with third parties involved in employee benefits and analyzes and makes recommendations associated with third parties providing these benefits as well as analyzing the benefits themselves.
  • Completes data-driven surveys, reports, and requests for information from other entities, including the USGA, as it relates to the SCGA’s operations.
  • Handles all organizational and employee confidential information with a high degree of discretion.
  • Meets productivity and quality standards of the SCGA and its CEO.

Education and Experience (Preferred):  
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • 5 – 10 years of experience in an administrative leadership role with an organization of comparable size to the SCGA, both in terms of staff and budget.  
  • Experience in the golf industry, including cultural fluency tied to the game, is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience or knowledge associated with the Allied Golf Association community is a plus.

Time and Travel:  
The job requires some travel, mainly throughout Southern California. If driving a vehicle for work purposes, the employee must have access to a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, proof, and proof of adequate car insurance. This position requires working contiguous days with flexible scheduling over a seven-day week. The employee must be willing to work weekends, early mornings, and evenings.  
 
Physical Demands:  
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to move, lift and carry heavy objects, including supply boxes, and marketing collateral weighing up to 60 pounds. The job requires the employee to stand and/or walk for long periods of time while performing duties, including giving presentations. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
