Position Type: This is an independent contractor position with a commission-based compensation structure. The SCGA will provide support, marketing tools, and access to leads, but compensation will be based on revenue generated through advertising and sponsorship sales.
- 10% Commission on SCGA-provided (warm) leads
- 20% Commission on self-sourced, new business leads
The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) is in need of sales support and seeks a driven, modern sales professional to help grow our advertising and sponsorship portfolio across print, digital, and live event platforms.
This contract role is ideal for a proactive, goal-oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic, multimedia environment and is excited by the challenge of building and retaining relationships with new and existing clients. You’ll work directly with agencies and brands to design and deliver strategic campaigns aligned with SCGA’s influential audience of recreational golfers, one of the largest and most engaged in the country.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Sell integrated advertising and sponsorship programs across SCGA’s print, digital, social media, email, and event platforms.
- Lead proactive outreach efforts to develop new business, while also following up on SCGA-provided warm leads within 24 hours of receipt.
- Develop strategic campaign proposals tailored to client objectives, with support from SCGA’s marketing team for creative, branding, and performance metrics.
- Support the production of sales materials (decks, one-sheets, key metric summaries) and offer input on positioning and brand storytelling.
- Actively participate in regular check-ins and virtual meetings and maintain frequent and consistent communication with internal marketing team to stay aligned on goals and opportunities.
- Send weekly status reports outlining outreach activity, client conversations, pipeline updates, and year-to-date sales performance.
- Collaborate with SCGA’s marketing team to deliver on client goals and refine messaging and materials.
- Own your sales pipeline, from prospecting and proposal to closing, reporting, and renewal.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with key decision-makers across agencies and direct clients.
- Represent the SCGA as a brand ambassador at key events, industry gatherings, and trade shows.
- Organize and lead client engagement opportunities to strengthen relationships and increase visibility, as requested by the SCGA internal team.
- The contractor will take direction from the SCGA’s Senior Director of Communications and Marketing and will work closely with the SCGA’s sales and marketing team.
Requirements:
- 5-7 years of media, publishing, advertising, or sponsorship sales experience, with a proven track record of closing new business.
- Strong understanding of cross-platform media sales (digital, print, social, and events).
- Excellent presentation, proposal-writing, and communication skills.
- Self-starter mentality with strong time management, follow-up, and organizational habits.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in or knowledge of the golf industry is a plus, but not required.
- Must be able to attend in-person meetings in and have a strong understanding of the marketing/sales landscape in Southern California.
