Its primary goal is to enhance the enjoyment of the game for those who actively live the golf lifestyle or have just learned to swing a club. Job Summary: 
This part-time internship offers a comprehensive introduction and training experience in communications and marketing to prepare for a possible career in golf administration.  The internal title is: USGA P.J. Boatwright Jr. Communications and Marketing/Public Affairs Intern. 

  • Expected hours/week: 20 - 30
  • Duration: Approximately 9 months
  • Pay: $22.00 hourly 
 
Essential Responsibilities include:  
  • Support content for all SCGA digital communications by reviewing/proofing copy, ideating and/or writing stories when applicable, digitizing the quarterly print magazine for the website  
  • Update scga.org, including daily homepage content and sitewide updates 
  • Monitor and contribute to SCGA digital communications calendars, including newsletters, special events and digital advertising 
  • Handle general member inquiries and the Hole-In-One certificate program 
  • Support the SCGA photo and video content programs by updating libraries and assisting in production  
  • Support marketing efforts for the SoCal Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony  
  • Assist with the preparation of digital reports for programs such as SCGA Swing Tips and monthly digital metrics 
  • Serve in a support role for the advertising function 
  • Help identify content tied to the Public Affairs department’s activities for broad use in SCGA communications  
  • Track relevant media stories/content 
  • Monitor and track applicable legislation/regulation

  • Working knowledge of the game of golf. 
 
Education or Relevant Experience (Preferred):  
  • Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing) 

Time and Travel:  
The job requires some travel, mainly throughout Southern California, and requires the employee to have the ability to operate a car safely. The employee must have access to a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, proof of adequate car insurance and be able to work contiguous days with flexible scheduling over a seven-day week.

While performing the duties of this job, particularly at and prior to events, the employee is frequently required to move, lift and carry heavy objects, including supply boxes, pop-up tents and marketing collateral weighing up to 60 pounds. The job requires the employee to stand and/or walk for long periods of time while performing duties such as golf course marking and serving as a walking referee.
