The Maryland State Golf Association is looking for talented and well-rounded applicants with experience in sports and/or
data collection to fulfill a 2026 USGA P.J. Boatwright Member Services Internship.
Responsibilities
o Gain familiarity with core services including the World Handicap System™ (WHS), Rules of Handicapping,
Course Rating System™, and GHIN® through in-person training / engagement with staff and virtual education
o Perform course ratings at golf courses as part of a Course Rating team of staff and volunteers
o Support the Director of Handicapping & Course Rating with various aspects of Course Rating administration
including but not limited to golf course measurement, data entry, generating Course Rating forms and reports,
auditing Course Rating database and records, and volunteer engagement
o Respond to inquiries within the HubSpot platform related to WHS, Course Rating, and other core services.
o Answer general telephone and email inquiries of MSGA members and member clubs
o Support the Director of Member Services with membership administration and engagement / retention initiatives
o Assist with other MSGA tournaments and events as needed
o Support the efforts of all MSGA staff members as needed
Requirements
o A college degree (completed or in progress) is preferred, but not required
o A comfort working numbers and data and natural interest in analytical detail is preferred
o Strong written and verbal communication and organization skills required
o On-site Course Rating days with flexible hours
o Willingness to travel within the state and able to work outside in various weather conditions
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) is essential
o The selected individual must arrange their own housing in the area and provide their own transportation.
o Intern must attend orientation (funded by the USGA) in Liberty Corner, NJ, or virtually.
o MSGA apparel will be provided
o Ability to work from MSGA HQ in Lutherville-Timonium, MD
Position: 2026 USGA P.J. Boatwright Member Services Internship,
Early May through October (5 months); flexible start/end dates
Location: MSGA Office in Lutherville-Timonium, MD (Baltimore)
Housing & Transportation: The selected individual must arrange their own housing in the area and provide their own
transportation to work and Course Rating sites.
Compensation: $15.00 per hour
