To support golf course management staff in day to day operations by primarily focusing on ensuring daily operational objectives are met. AIT’s are also responsible for continuous improvements to the member experience, balancing risk vs. reward ideology, timely and logical decisions, and maintaining the utmost confidentiality of Club business.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Performs general facility and crew checks prior to morning start and after evening out time.
  • Performs fertilizer and pesticide applications, monitors/orders product under direction of management and stocks PPE inventories.
  • Implements departmental training programs, such as job task training, equipment operation, soil and turf lab analysis, and updating job task training sheets.
  • Maintains accurate weather records and assists in soil/erosion records under the direction and guidance of management. Performs and monitors all course traffic and signage for turf stress and safety. Communicates any necessary adjustments as appropriate
  • Supports management with flood control monitoring the Rae’s Creek Dam.
  • Performs scouts in areas of responsibility and provides schedule input and maps to management, while also making suggestions to staff members under their direction and helping with their training and development.
  • Performs general open-up and lock-up of facility according to schedule, along with posting daily work schedules when supporting assistants.
  • Provides labor and coordinates the completion of maintenance operations, projects and activities, while contributing knowledge and experiences in general course maintenance, equipment operation/maintenance, and construction.
  • Leads group projects and assists/supports management with crew morale building by providing performance updates, constructive coaching and counseling, and by promoting cooperation and teamwork.
  • Assist with Irrigation and Systems repair, maintenance, monitoring and construction.
  • Provides assistance with supervisory support of Golf Course personnel.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides management daily course maintenance and operational recommendations.
  • Performs necessary checks and work to the bent, test greens, test sites etc.
  • Administers soil lab operations and clean-up.
  • Follows all safety procedures as outlined by department and club, and updates MSDS folders at the request of the Safety Manager and Senior Assistant.
  • Monitors collection of root depth, soil temperature records and nematode assays by turf grads.
  • Propose improvement ideas to the Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant.
  • Communicates any membership concerns in a professional and timely manner to the Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant.
  • Continues to gain professional knowledge through seminars, workshops and reading materials.
  • Performs and oversees product trials set forth by the Golf Course Superintendent with assistance from the Turf Grads, regarding new technologies in the industry.
  • Monitors wash rack, blow pad, mill creek, and clipping disposal systems.
  • Performs all other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job.
  • Supports Second Assistant with GPS record keeping and documentation.
  • Provides on-call support during non-traditional business hours as weather, equipment failure, vandalism or other situations requiring immediate action present themselves.

Qualifications (required unless stated otherwise):
Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:

  • Knowledge of Turfgrass management, irrigation construction repair and maintenance
  • Landscaping knowledge preferred
  • Effective communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computer operation and software proficiency
  • High attention to detail

Experience/Education:

  • Minimum of two years’ relevant working experience on a golf course
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Minimum two-year certificate from an accredited Turfgrass management program or related field; Bachelor’s Degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred.

Required License(s):

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program
  • Must hold a current commercial pesticides license or the ability to obtain one.
