About the XFL
The new XFL will reimagine football for the 21st century when it kicks off in early 2020. Delivering authentic, high-energy football for the whole family at an affordable price, the XFL will offer fast-paced games with fewer play stoppages and simpler rules. The league will launch with eight teams in markets across the country, 45-man active rosters, and a 10-week regular season schedule with a postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game. The XFL is a single entity that owns the league and all teams, employing professionals at the Stamford, CT headquarters as well as in each of the markets that the teams call home.

About the Role
The LA Wildcats is seeking a Specialist, Public Relations to play an integral role in driving the Wildcats team branding and awareness by managing the execution of a comprehensive communications plan. This includes, but is not limited to, media outreach, player relations and event staffing. The Specialist, Public Relations will report to the Head of Communications and Media Relations, and will work closely with all leads, i.e. marketing, content, partnerships, ticketing, etc. to maximize media results and recognition. 

What you will do
  • Support the Director of Media Relations in the formulation and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that brings a new entity in the crowded LA landscape to the forefront of traditional and new media outlets.
  • Experience using Cisionpoint and Critical Mention for media list building and media monitoring.
  • Assist with gameday player relations and media operations including pregame and postgame press conferences, team interviews, credential set-up, in-game media requests and post-game quotes. 
  • Draft and maintain player bios, franchise fact sheets and personnel bios as needed.
  • Work with the Director of Media Relations on formulating stories and pitches to further tell the stories of players, coaches and personnel on and off the field.
  • Maintain weekly press clippings and assist with inventory and organization of Wildcats collateral material to effectively publicize the team. 
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key external parties such as media, influencers, VIPs and dignitaries. 
  • Produce football-related content, primarily in the form of written press releases, advisories, team publications and content for social media/digital channels.
  • Manage gameday public relations and stats crew, including scheduling of staff and necessary administrative responsibilities for both home and away games. 
  • Work remotely for away games to handle all pregame and postgame football communications-related requests. 
  • Maintain team communications calendar.
  • Other duties as assigned.

How you will be measured
  • KPIs: Brand recognition and public perception measurements.
  • Contribution to key revenue lines and delivery of the overall business plan.
  • Community engagement measures including securing earned media.

What you will bring
  • 3+ years of public relations with an emphasis in communication skills, social media savvy and knowledge of consumer-facing sports (including football), media or entertainment industries.
  • A self-starter with a proven track record to work independently and under tight deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit. 
  • Knowledge of the Los Angeles market including media outlets, events, organizations and business opportunities.
  • Media relations experience onsite at press conferences, media junkets and sporting events.
  • Research skills and ability to fact check.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Position requires attendance at evening and weekend events/games.
  • Ability to work well with multiple stakeholders across the company in various departments (marketing, partnerships, content, etc.).
  • BA/BS required.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.
