Internship: Internship
 We are currently seeking a candidate to fill the following internship during the 2021 - 2022 season: Communications Intern 
Reports to:  Senior Communications Manager

We are looking for candidates who:
  • Are able to commit to a full-time work schedule (6:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., weekends, evenings and holidays as necessary) from approximately May/June 2021 through June 2022.
  • Have a passion to work in the professional sports industry and are ready to make an impact on the Houston Texans organization!

  • In possession or in pursuit of Bachelor’s degree from four-year accredited college or university required.
  • College or professional sports media experience preferred.

Basic Function:
  • Assist the Communications department with daily tasks.
  • Assist media with information regarding the Club.
  • Work with corporate communications team on all public relations for LSSE events.
  • Assist in setting up player interviews with local media and television networks.
  • Assist with daily transcripts. 

Skills Required:
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign software preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with multiple priorities in a high energy environment.
  • Effective verbal and interpersonal communications.
  • Strong writing skills; proven experience in use of AP style preferred.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and ability to work effectively under pressure and within deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information.

Job Function (duties and responsibilities):
Weekly Duties
  • Update daily news clips and enter into archiving system.
  • Distribute daily news clips via e-mail to team personnel and via hardcopy as designated.
  • Update all player statistics, existing game and other notes and create new ones for weekly releases.
  • Format, print and distribute League-provided statistics to coaches.
  • Clip and archive all team game stories.
  • Assist with NFL Network Team Cam, faxing out and appearances
  • Transcribe player and coach interviews from practices, press conferences, open locker room and weekly conference calls.
  • Attend all player practices and assist as necessary with media and other communications department responsibilities.
  • Prepare weekly clips for weekly media/production meeting as well as participate in media/production meeting held prior to home games.
  • Ensure all pertinent departmental information is packed and ready for road games.
  • Setup press box (seating cards, seating charts, booth signs, flip cards, game notes) prior to home games.
  • Assist in all aspects of the credentialing process for the pre- and regular football season and with answering phones, faxing, copying and various other general office duties.
  • Assist in all aspects of non-sports publicity.
  • Assist other Football Operations personnel as required.
  • Complete various other miscellaneous tasks as may be directed by the Communications staff.

Training Camp Duties (in addition to Weekly Duties)
  • Collect daily newspapers from security guard office no later than 6:30 a.m. each day.
  • Accompany media personnel at all practices; provide media personnel with appropriate credentials and water; and enforce rules regarding media access.
  • Transcribe player and coaches quotes and distribute them to the media.
  • Assist in arranging and coordinating interviews with players, coaches and front office staff.
  • Draft press releases and advisories for review by appropriate media relations personnel.
  • Research information for weekly game release.
  • Assist other Football Operations personnel as required.

  • Assist with research and writing for Season in Review
  • Update all statistics and other pertinent information

Travel Requirements:
Possible domestic travel to pre-season and regular season games.
