Basic Function:   
  • Support the day-to-day media relations activities for the Club.

Job Function (Duties & Responsibilities):
Communication Responsibilities

  • Maintain, update, and enhance the all-inclusive media website platform, NFL Online Media Guide (OMG), with pertinent information. 
  • Responsible for all NFLOMG.com functions and formatting the overall presentation of the website. 
  • Serve as a media contact for interviews with players. 
  • Assist with the training, mentoring, and development of the department’s year-long interns. 
  • Provide significant input related to the formulation of media talking points for coaches, players, and other key executives. 
  • Maintain the team roster on digital and hard copies, including updating all transactions. Email and print when changes occur. Also, communicate with our digital team to ensure the team’s website is always accurate.
  • Assist as directed in the weekly credentialing process during the season.Assist in the creation and production of the weekly flip card for all home and away contests. 
  • Serve as the primary writer and editor for the team’s extensive weekly release while overseeing interns’ release responsibilities.
  • Primary contact for the league office regarding annual league publications, including the Record and Fact Book, Black Book, etc. 
  • Take lead on all responsibilities for production of the Club’s annual media guide with specific job duties to include, but not limited to: design layout of guide; writing and editing of content; and coordination of the distribution of the guide. 
  • Assist the department in the planning and logistics, collaborating with all parties involved, for the team’s annual Media Day. 
  • Oversee the department’s social media strategy and serve as the point of contact for graphic design needs. 
  • Help develop and implement Media Policies for offseason and in-season workouts, events and activities. 
  • Be present with media at all open practices and during open locker room. 
  • Pitch weekly stories to local media and NFL broadcast partners. 
  • Assist in conducting weekly production meetings for home and road games. 
  • Attend community events and other off-the-field player-led initiatives as directed.
  • Assist in editing internal communication responsibilities such as emails, newsletters, digital messaging and more. 
  • Compile Cision and Meltwater reports for department on a regular basis. 
  • Work hand-in-hand with digital, marketing and social departments to streamline team messaging across all platforms.
  • Prepare all press box materials ahead of gameday including seating cards, seating charts, booth signs, etc.
  • Take lead on working with creative department to revamp all communication publication designs in the offseason. 
  • Perform various other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by department leadership. 
  • Subject to reasonable accommodations, position requires routine face-to-face personal interaction with other Club personnel; therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in the Club offices and not in a telecommuting manner.
 
Lone Star Sports and Entertainment
  • Serve as the lead public relations contact for all Lone Star Sports and Entertainment events, including the Kinder’s Texas Bowl, Texas Kickoff and more. 
  • Lead strategic media outreach and develop proactive PR plans for upcoming LSSE events.
  • Attend and actively participate in all LSSE events.
  • Lead credentialing process for Kinder’s Texas Bowl along with other LSSE events as assigned.
  • Establish a media tour for all LSSE events (Bowl game, college games, soccer matches and concerts) to support ticket sales.
  • Lead department efforts for the Bowl game and soccer match, while helping the interns lead all communications efforts for the Texas Kickoff.
  • Assist with communication efforts for Houston’s League One Volleyball (LOVB) Houston team.
  • Maintain the history on previous events.
 
Gameday Duties
  • Help with maintaining an efficiently functioning press box, photo workroom and auditorium for all home games.
  • Produce postgame notes and information following each game that are emailed out to media and the Club.  
  • Serve as the lead on getting postgame notes and transcripts sent out to the media distribution list and the organization.
  • Help manage and open the locker room for media to begin interview sessions.
  • Failitate postgame interviews with players and broadcast network partners. 
  • Assist media with lineup changes or inactive players before kickoff. 
  • Assist network and radio with pronunciations of players before kickoff.
  • Prepare players for potential questions during postgame availability.
  • Research and provide team or player information to media during games.
  • Travel with the team to select road contests to assist in all communication responsibilities. 
 
Position requires routine face-to-face personal interaction with other Club personnel; therefore, many job responsibilities must be physically performed in the Club’s offices on a regular basis and not in a telecommuting manner; provided, however, this position requires frequent and regular visits to current and prospective partner offices and elsewhere away from the Club’s offices to present proposals and participate in follow-up meetings.
  
Skills Required: 
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications. 
  • Proficiency in use of Adobe Creative Suite software applications. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a high-energy environment. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently across different mediums such as social media, in person, on the telephone and in writing. 
  • Ability to exercise excellent research skills in order to communicate accurately and authoritatively on a subject. 
  • Working knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style. Ability to think creatively in order to identify new and different ways to promote a business, individual, initiative, etc. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain solid working relationships at all levels across the organization and externally. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate work within designated deadlines. 
  • Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information. 
  • Ability and internal drive to demonstrate a positive, winning attitude, team-first mentality and a strong work ethic in the performance of all job responsibilities.  
 
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of public or media relations experience with a professional sports team required.
