The Los Angeles Chargers are seeking a Payroll Manager to manage department deliverables and provide leadership for the organization’s payroll function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of payroll records, supporting strong internal controls, and ensuring adherence to payroll policies, procedures, and deadlines.

The Payroll Manager partners cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and external vendors to support compliance with federal and state regulations and organizational standards. This role fosters a strong sense of ownership and accountability within the team, contributing to an environment of operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Serving as a key support  this position assists in ensuring compliance with payroll-related rules and regulations and acts as a backup in the Director’s absence. The role reports to the Director of Payroll & Operations.

Payroll Operations & Processing

· Supports the Director to ensure payroll processing deadlines are met, payroll records are accurate, and internal payroll policy/procedures are followed.
 · Provides timely and accurate employee/employer tax-related reports, tax deposits/filings, and general ledger.
· Reviews garnishment, wage deductions, levies, and child support payment requests for compliance with federal and state laws.
 · Supports the Director in the identification of payroll compliance rules, regulations, and procedures; works with all parties (internal and external) to ensure that the company complies promptly.
· Recommends improvements and development strategies to improve department effectiveness and efficiency overall. 
· Reviews procedures to assist with adherence to internal controls; recommends improvements to controls as needed, based on best practices; fosters a strong control environment to ensure payroll integrity and confidentiality.
 · Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive Human Resources and Payroll information.
· Responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and updating Dayforce payroll and timekeeping systems, including system configuration, enhancements, and testing.
 · Performs payroll-related data entry and data management within HRIS systems, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and data integrity.
 · Supports system upgrades, patches, and program changes, including testing and validation of payroll system functionality.
· Supports audits and ensures appropriate supporting documentation is provided to external auditors.
 · Responds to inquiries from management regarding payroll results and special reporting requests.
· Works on special projects and addresses business and financial ramifications of significant and/or unusual transactions, as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Attention to detail and accuracy.
 · Extensive knowledge of multi-state payroll and applicable laws.
 · Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
 · Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
 · Needs to be well-organized, proactive, and detail-oriented.
 · Strong communication skills, including the ability to work in a team environment, give honest, direct feedback, and are a solid verbal and written communicator.

Education and Experience:

· A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experience.
 · Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing multi-state payroll.
 · Strong understanding and experience with payroll systems, payroll processing, and compliance issues.
