Reporting to the COO and serving as an integral member of the LA Rams leadership team, the Vice President of Finance (VP) will be responsible for the development of the LA Rams financial management strategy and contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic goals. In addition to the strategic components of the role, the VP will actively be involved in the day-to-day execution of all tactical and operational processes required to meet the demands of the department and overall business. As an active member of the leadership team, the VP of Finance will develop and implement sophisticated policies and procedures both in the finance and general operational realms. Strategy, Vision and Leadership
  • Advise the COO and other key members of the Rams leadership team on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters.
  • Serve as the management liaison to ownership, league office, audit agencies; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of the LA Rams strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the COO and appropriate leadership informed of all critical issues.

Operations
  • Actively participates in the execution and resolution of all tactical and day to operational issues that arise.  Incumbent is expected to roll up his/her sleeves as needed within the department and organization.
  • Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures at all levels of the organization.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process.
  • Ensure that the LA Rams is adhering to the strategic plan, delivering financial and performance status reports, as established by the COO and overall leadership team.
  • Ensure that finance and audit practices conform to team policies, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and all applicable tax laws. Ensure that internal control systems are maintained at adequate levels. Maintain the organization’s accounting policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Provide analytical support to the LA Rams internal management team including development of internal management reporting capabilities.
  • Improve administrative and operational accounting services such as treasury management, payment processing, payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing.
 
Team Development/Leadership
  • Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the finance department (approximately 5-7 employees with various experience levels).
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.
 
Qualifications
  • Business or Accounting degree mandatory, a master’s in relevant field is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in a director/vp level role ideally with both external audit and in-house financial management experience gained in a high-growth and fast-paced environment.
  • Broad financial understanding, including accounting, control, financial planning and analysis, treasury and tax.
  • Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a results oriented organization.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise and experience.
  • Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask.
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Self reliant, good problem solver, results oriented.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management.
  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker.
 
Experience Preferred Minimum 10 years experience in a director/vp level role ideally with both external audit and in-house financial management experience gained in a high-growth and fast-paced environment.
