About This Role

The Quad City Steamwheelers are seeking a dedicated and motivated Athletic Training Intern for the 2026 Indoor Football League season. This full-season internship offers hands-on experience in a professional sports environment, providing valuable exposure to sports medicine, athletic performance, and player health management.

The intern will be fully integrated into the team’s high-performance and medical operations, working alongside our Head Coach and medical partner to assist with daily athletic training duties. This position is ideal for a future Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) or sports medicine professional looking to gain meaningful, first-hand experience in professional football.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide daily medical coverage during practices, including taping, stretching, hydration, and assisting athletic trainers as needed.
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and field coverage before and after practices.
  • Support daily treatment and rehabilitation sessions for players under the supervision of the Head Coach and medical partner.
  • Document treatments, injuries, and player progress accurately and confidentially.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on movement patterns, injury prevention techniques, and recovery practices.
  • Attend weekly medical meetings with the Head Coach and medical team to discuss player status and updates.
  • Help maintain a professional and safe environment, reinforcing team standards and positive player interactions.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of all athletic training areas, supplies, and equipment.

    Qualifications and Requirements
  • Must be CPR/AED certified.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor.
  • High level of adaptability and ability to adjust to a dynamic schedule.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow direction from medical professionals.
  • Experience or coursework in injury prevention, rehabilitation, or kinesiology preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Travel is not required, but may be allowed based on team needs and performance.
