The Media Relations Intern will work as part of the Indoor Football League’s Communications and Public Relations team, assisting in day-to-day media operations and storytelling for one of the fastest-growing professional football leagues in the country. This role provides hands-on experience in press communications, statistical research, and content development — ideal for someone looking to build a foundation in sports communications and media relations.

This internship reports directly to the Director of Media and runs from December– August. It is a remote, unpaid position that provides national exposure and real-world experience in professional sports communications. Weekend and evening availability is required.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Assist in producing and distributing weekly news clips, press releases, game previews, and recaps.
  • Compile and format stat packs, post-game notes, and media materials for league and team use.
  • Conduct statistical research for use in game notes, storylines, and media features.
  • Draft and proofread written content, including media guides, game notes, and official announcements.
  • Write and pitch feature stories highlighting league players, coaches, and milestones.
  • Support website and social media analytics tracking weekly and seasonal performance.
  • Upload news stories, press releases, and transactions to the official league website.
  • Work on special research projects and publications as assigned by the Director of Media.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements
  • Pursuing or holding a degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of football, including basic understanding of statistics and game structure.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to work with a variety of personalities.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have access to your own computer, reliable internet, and necessary software.
  • Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
