The Writing & Podcast Intern is a strong storyteller with sound news judgement and experience covering sports. The individual is responsible for working closely with the Writer, Audio Initiatives Manager on story ideas and regularly publishing written content to Colts.com for the season-long internship. Additionally, the individual will contribute to the Indianapolis Colts’ podcast lineup through production, compiling analytics and other assistance as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Indianapolis Colts Writing & Podcast Intern’s responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Attend Colts press conferences, practices and games to report, write, edit and publish written content
  • Write in a tone consistent with Colts.com style guidelines
  • Write straight news and develop story ideas for notebooks and feature articles.
  • Assist in transcribing press conferences and media availability
  • Assist in publishing press releases to Colts.com
  • Assist in managing Colts roster and transactions on Colts.com
  • Research and assist in the development and execution of the Colts audio initiatives 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proficient, creative writer with background covering sports, preferably football
  • Ability to write for a team website and avoid editorializing
  • Professionalism to work with and interview NFL players, coaches, and football operations staff
  • Comfortable writing football and non-football stories
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple assignments at once
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Audition, Photoshop and Premiere, as well as CMS platforms and SEO best practices
  • Ability to work a daily schedule as well as nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability and willingness to learn and grow as a reporter and writer
  • College degree in journalism or equivalent experience
