The Cincinnati Bengals are seeking a proactive and experienced Tax Manager – State & Federal Income Tax to lead all aspects of the organization’s income tax compliance and reporting processes. This includes oversight of both federal and state income tax returns and coordination of shareholder distributions. The successful candidate will take full ownership of tax filings and serve as a key liaison between internal departments and external advisors. This role reports directly to the CFO and plays a vital part in strategic tax planning and compliance in a dynamic sports environment.
Key Responsibilities:
· Prepare and file state income and franchise tax returns, including extensions and estimated payments across multiple jurisdictions.
· Prepare and review the federal income tax return and related schedules, coordinating with external tax advisors.
· Maintain and update tax calendars to ensure all federal and state filings and payments are submitted on time.
· Compile and analyze financial and operational data for use in state apportionment and federal return reporting.
· Coordinate and assist with shareholder tax returns and distributions, ensuring timely filings and compliance with relevant tax standards.
· Maintain supporting documentation for federal and state filings and prepare workpapers as needed.
· Research and summarize applicable tax regulations and guidance at both state and federal levels.
· Respond to federal and state tax notices and lead audits, including gathering supporting documentation.
· Collaborate with departments such as Accounting, Legal, and Ownership Relations to support compliance and reporting functions.
· Drive process improvements and implement best practices in tax workflows.
· Assist in additional financial and administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in corporate income tax compliance
· Experience with both federal and multi-state corporate tax filings strongly preferred.
Skills & Attributes:
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel and tax compliance software
· Strong understanding of federal and state income tax concepts.
· Ability to manage deadlines, delegate effectively, and oversee complex projects.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
· Professionalism and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
Preferred Qualifications:
· CPA certification strongly preferred.
· Familiarity with S-corporation or partnership returns and shareholder tax reporting is beneficial.
Experience working in the sports, entertainment, or media industries is a plus
