Job Summary: The Arizona Cardinals are seeking a full-time Junior Sous Chef to join the Performance Kitchen team! As a member of the Arizona Cardinals Nutrition Services Department, Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Training Facility (Tempe) location, the Junior Sous Chef reports to the Performance Chef and is responsible for assisting with the management and overall productivity, execution, and presentation of the team and corporate meals during the entire year. This position is the back-up to the Lead Team Chef and takes full responsibility for back-of-house operations in their absence. As a team member, the Junior Sous Chef will collaborate with the head chefs and dietitians to provide fresh, local, sustainable, and nutrient-dense meals tailored specifically to the needs of the Arizona Cardinals players, coaches, and staff.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Supports the Lead Chef in managing the back-of-house culinary team to ensure compliance with the standards of the Arizona Cardinals meal services.
  • Under the direction of the Lead Chef, execute the to-go meals using customized portions and food preferences.
  • Assists Lead Chef in performing and delegating prep work tasks as needed.
  • Conducts research on innovative recipes and trending culinary developments; integrating those developments into in-season menus for team dietary needs and preferences
  • Maintain an “A” grade level of cleanliness with the kitchen and equipment, as outlined in the kitchen’s guidelines.
  • Assists chefs in screening and interviewing applicants, using club standards and policies for potential candidates.
  • Assists in monthly inventory and yearly equipment needs/specifications.
  • Supports the Performance and Lead Team Chefs in executing training camp meal operations at off-site locations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED
  • Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years of culinary experience; including one (1) year of management experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above may be considered
  • Exhibit leadership skills to handle various requests and the ability to quickly problem-solve issues.
  • Ability to respectfully communicate questions, suggestions, or ideas to the Executive Chef; maintain an organized and professional approach when presenting ideas and plans for departmental improvements
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills with management and team, exhibiting the ability to identify strengths of the staff, delegate responsibilities appropriately, and manage disputes or conflicts in a professional manner
  • Demonstrate a continuous mindset of growth, progression, and learning, while displaying an outgoing, goal-oriented, and high-energy attitude. 
  • Display effective time management skills with the ability to work positively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment; capable of prioritizing and completing multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Knowledge of club policies for worker’s compensation, recruiting, hiring, and onboarding employees; accurately manage confidential information in compliance with HIPAA guidelines and maintains a professional attitude around a professional team
  • Understands the importance of teamwork and adherence to department guidelines; current with all required certifications including a ServSafe Manager Certifications.
  • Knowledgeable in the functionality of WhenIWork, Microsoft Office, SharePoint
  • Ability to work mandatory team events on weekends, off-site, and out of state when necessary; ability to work 8-10 hour shifts (40 hours minimum); the schedule may change depending on business needs.

 

Special Working Conditions:

  • Includes walking and/or standing for long periods of time
  • Lifting food deliveries and equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Working with sharp objects such as various knives
  • Participate in kitchen set-up, which may require repetitive bending, turning, and kneeling
