The Senior Accountant - Operations will assist in the inventory accounting and costing functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This role will be responsible for supporting inventory accounting and will partner with teams across the organization to optimize inventory processes and resolve any inventory-related concern. The Senior Accountant - Operations will monitor and analyze inventory data to identify trends and variances while providing business insights to various internal stakeholders. They will support the monthly financial closing process, making improvements along the way.

Job Duties (Duties marked with an asterisk are essential functions of this job):

  • Record and report financial results, including accurate and timely preparation of monthly journal entries, financial statements, and balance sheet account reconciliations.*

  • Perform certain month-end closing duties such as preparing cost calculations, validating inventory balances, recording journal entries, and reconciling balance sheets. Fluctuation analysis of COGS, margins, and inventory levels will also be expected.*

  • Lead inventory audit activities by establishing the inventory schedule (to include physical inventory counts and cycle counts), coordinating the use of external inventory services if deemed necessary, reviewing/reconciling inventory results, and evaluating the adequacy of controls to safeguard product and minimize inventory shrink.*

  • Develop, report, and analyze key inventory performance indicators (KPIs) as well as explain fluctuations in inventory levels.*

  • Recommend process improvements, create workflow efficiencies, and strengthen internal controls. Such recommendations may include, but are not limited to, the expanded use of point-of-sale and inventory software or improved auditing effectiveness within other existing systems and processes.*

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget for select areas to include design and management of budget schedules and comparison to current year and prior year activity. 

  • Ensure sales tax compliance is properly configured in the purchase order system.

  • Assist in the preparation and review of deliverables requested by senior management as well as for external audits of annual financial statements.*

  • Complete special projects and prepare ad-hoc reports and analyses as requested.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Bachelor’s degree - Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Management

  • Minimum of 3 years of related accounting/finance experience. 

  • Industry Experience - Financial Services, Hospitality, Public Accounting

  • Must have a valid Drivers’ License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate and advocate accounting positions.

  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, and ability to use these tools to create efficiencies.

  • Experience with financial accounting software and reporting tools.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills. Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment and effectively manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
