The Role and What You’ll Do:
The Athlete Health & Performance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating comprehensive medical care, licensure, and post-event injury management for athletes. This role involves frequent communication with athletes, medical providers, insurance partners, and athletic commissions to ensure timely medical evaluations, compliance with regulatory requirements, and continuity of care following competition.
- Coordinates all aspects of medical care for athletes, including coordination of efforts with individual service providers and insurance companies.
- Schedule and manage medical appointments, ensuring athletes receive timely evaluations and treatment related to injuries, licensure, and post-fight care.
- Research, identify, and maintain relationships with qualified medical providers capable of delivering appropriate athlete care.
- Facilitate medical services by providing insurance information or arranging direct payment to medical providers when required.
- Collaborate with the Chief Medical Director regarding athlete treatment plans, medical suspensions, and clearances to return to competition.
- Track and manage medical requirements for athlete licensure, including follow-up with athletes, managers, and athletic commissions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records within company databases in compliance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Identify and coordinate with trauma hospitals and emergency medical services in host cities prior to events, confirming coverage, setup, and service requirements.
- Attend assigned events to assist with on-site medical coordination, injury response, and hospital transport as needed; rotate event coverage with team members.
- Liaise with commission physicians and EMTs on event days and support commission medical operations during events.
- Prepare regular reports detailing athlete injuries, medical status updates, insurance claims, and related documentation.
- Routinely follows up with assigned athletes and track injuries.
- Works with the state’s athletic commission to lift athlete’s medical suspensions.
- Coordinate travel arrangements for athletes requiring specialized medical treatment or referrals, as needed.
- Support Athlete Health & Performance operations across multiple promotions and properties, including but not limited to UFC, UFC BJJ, Power Slap, and other affiliated events or organizations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support Athlete Health & Performance operations.
You Have These:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in a science or healthcare-related field, or a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a medical or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge and/or education pertaining to medical terminology.
- Familiarity with ICD-9 and CPT coding.
- Experience submitting health insurance claims for health care provider helpful.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
- Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidential information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; ability to learn additional software systems.
- Strong multitasking and time-management abilities.
- Bilingual skills Preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
