Job Function: This position is responsible for implementing the policies and procedures, as determined by the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Committee, that governs the Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.

Additionally, this position oversees and manages all aspects relative to the planning and operations of the Division III Men’s Basketball Championship, while assisting with the NIT Postseason Tournament.  Primary responsibilities also include basketball operations and other duties related to the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

Job Responsibilities

Manage the Division III Men’s Basketball Championships, including:

  • Coordinating the selections process for the championship.
  • Prepare and distribute agendas and supplements for committee, host/local organizing committees, and site representative meetings as needed for championship planning.
  • Oversee game operations for preliminary round host sites and championship site.
  • Work with media coordination staff to develop a press release and bracket for distribution.
  • Assist the Division III Men’s Basketball National Coordinator of officials in executing his role as the assigner of the Division III Men’s Basketball Championship. Includes:
    • Preparing, distributing and collecting items to/from all Division III men’s Basketball Conference Coordinators.
    • Preparing and presenting educational webinars for Division III Men’s Basketball coaches and officials.
    • Other miscellaneous officiating operations relative to the championship.
  • Develop and disseminate electronic correspondence to internal and external constituents. Includes memorandums, letters, certificates, bid information, reports, officials, volunteers, and sport committees
  • Revise, edit, publish and post manuals for the Division III Men’s Basketball Championship, including the pre-championship, host operations, committee, participant and site rep manuals.
  • Act as liaison to Short’s Travel to coordinate arrangements relative to committee meetings, including preparing hotel contracts, rooming lists, catering orders, special events or dinners and financial reconciliation at conclusion of meetings for Division III Men’s Basketball;
  • Respond to inquiries and remain point of contact for hotel rooms at annual meetings (committee) and championship site (committee, Championships and Alliances staff and NCAA constituents) for Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.
  • Serve as point person for posting Division III Men’s Basketball information to ncaa.org for Championships and Alliances.
  • Participate in the overall evaluation of championships.

 

Assist with the operations of the Division I Men’s Basketball Preliminary Rounds, including:

  • Oversight of the ordering and shipping of all necessary equipment and apparel. Equipment includes basketballs, towels, chairs, coolers, goals/nets, and other basketball equipment relative to the Men’s Basketball preliminary rounds.
  • Serve as a preliminary round-site representative for Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
    • Lead monthly planning calls with assigned sites and perform a site visit to review all operational areas including transportation, lodging, venue and game operations.
    • Conduct walkthroughs with the venue and other tournament constituents to ensure the venue has been set per all bid specifications, connect with tournament personnel on administrative items, and ensure basketball court and courtside set up meet all NCAA rules.
    • Assist the committee member(s) in conducting the tournament meeting with all participating teams, broadcast partners and game officials.
    • Administer gameday practices and games including coordination with participating teams, officials, broadcast, media coordination, game management, athletic training, and the competition venue.
    • Serve as primary liaison with participating teams, quickly solve problems that arise and lead coordination of the games committee to address problems that need to be elevated and discussed at a higher level.
  • Assist with preliminary round transportation with Short’s Travel.
  • Oversight of the ball person program.
  • Oversight of the preliminary rounds host apparel online store.
  • Revise and edit Division I Men’s Basketball Championship manuals related to basketball operations.
  • Other miscellaneous basketball operations relative to the championship.

 

Assist with the operations of the Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four, including:

  • Assist in the oversight of the Final Four Transportation program by working with On Location to finalize a transportation plan that includes all team transportation and special transfers.
  • Manage and oversee the execution of the Final Four Courtesy Car program.
  • Manage and oversee the USA Basketball Junior Minicamp.
  • Manage and oversee team arrivals at the local FBO in the Final Four city.
  • Manage and oversee all Final Four deliveries including load-out at the stadium.
  • Manage and oversee the gifting suite on-site at the Men’s Final Four.
  • Assist with all budgets related to the Men’s Final Four.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Assist with NIT Postseason Championship:

  • Participate in the selection process for the NIT Postseason Tournament, including working with media coordination staff to develop a press release and bracket for distribution;
  • Assist with assigning officiating roles in Refquest which includes setting up travel, payment, and other officiating needs.

Job Requirements     

  • Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in basketball operations and event management, preferably in basketball operations.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and communication skills.
  • Operating knowledge of Windows based software including PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision, quickly and under pressure.
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities, including independent ownership of projects.
  • Willingness to assess processes and systems in order to explore continuous improvements, creativity and insight in order to implement new processes to improve efficiency.
  • This position will require up to <20% travel, including throughout the month of March.
  • This position will be based out of the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current work environment is hybrid; 3 days in the office and 2 days are remote.
