The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director, Event Operations. This is a career, full-time position with a targeted annual salary range of $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 with full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director, Event Operations, the Assistant Director, Event Operations coordinates the planning and execution of high-quality athletic events for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics 25 nationally recognized intercollegiate varsity sport programs.
This position will serve as the main point of contact for game operations and event management of all assigned athletics competitions. In fulfilling these duties, this position is responsible for effectively collaborating amongst multiple units both internal and external to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Major functions of this role include: game/event planning, development, execution and review; communication with a wide range of constituents; elite customer service delivery amongst a wide range of constituents; management and leadership of part-time staff; maintenance of existing best practices and development and implementation of new best practices as necessary; maintenance and implementation of measures put in place to maintain a safe and secure environment for all constituents. Given the stature and nature of the sports involved, and in interest of protecting and enhancing the University and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics brand, this position will be held to the highest degree of excellence in terms of game/event operations, management, and presentation. Spectator and participant safety, and compliance with NCAA, Conference, MPSF, and University rules and regulations are fundamental elements of each event.
All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience and training required; Master’s Degree preferred; Minimum two (2) years of working in an event management role is preferred; Working knowledge of NCAA and ability to learn and adhere to Conference game management policies and procedures for all sports; detailed knowledge of rules, customs and traditions for intercollegiate athletic competitions; Detailed knowledge of rules, customs and traditions for intercollegiate athletic competitions; Ability to develop work product in a consistent manner and with high regard to detail, and ability to embrace and thrive in a constantly changing environment full of interruptions; Working knowledge of safety codes, emergency procedures, and risk management as applied to athletic competitions and public assemblies; Detailed knowledge of arenas, stadiums, and other venues and thorough knowledge of various building systems related to athletic competitions; thorough knowledge of all staffing positions required to operate a game/event; Skill in preparing and motivating personnel to efficiently accomplish a desired performance; Ability to recognize and correct deficient event operations in a rapid and organized manner; Ability to meet short-term and long term deadlines on many concurrent assignments while achieving the desired result in all cases; Ability to train and evaluate staff to perform according to set policy and procedure; Working knowledge of various event related audio/video components; Ability to communicate at a high level in various forms including, but not limited to, written and verbally; Working knowledge of various computer software (office systems, data base and reports, graphics); Ability to learn and adhere to all University of California, University of California, Los Angeles, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics policies and procedures; Ability to work weekends, holidays and odd hours as needed.
